This weekend the popular English singer Kim Wilde is in the Netherlands. Not for television performances, but for two concerts. The first she plays in Groningen (Oosterpoort) and the second tomorrow night in Utrecht (Vredenburg).

Before these concerts on Dutch soil a tour in England took place, which was very succesful. At first Kim Wilde and her minders had some concern over the success of this venture, but the concerts were totally sold out within a short time. And that idea made her cheer up.

Kim Wilde, daughter of singer/artist Marty Wilde, was born on November 18, 1960. After finishing art college in St. Albans she started singing backing vocals on several recordings of her brother Ricky.  Her qualities as a singer were spotted by chance. Kim Wilde: 'Ricky had written some songs and made a demo tape. I was singing backing vocals on them. In order to get a record contract, he went to RAK, a big record firm in England. They were very interested there. Ricky was told he should record his songs again, but then in a real recording studio. During one of those sessions I was there to sing. Producer Micky Most heard it and was a bit impressed by my voice. He asked whether I was interested in signing a contract with him.'

Before her breakthrough Kim already had some experience in the studio. She was just out of the diapers when she sang on records of friends and colleagues of her father. 'The studio was like a second home for me. I was there so often. There were a lot of people who knew I wanted to become a singer.'

Kim Wilde has achieved that idea land is a happy person. 'I am possessed by this job, but I do try to look at my success with a serious look. There's no sense in losing your cool. Showbusiness is a fleeting industry: today you're a star, tomorrow you could well be forgotten.'

Her debut single 'Kids in America', written by brother Ricky, was a big success. Just like her first album 'Kim Wilde'. After this a second album followed, entitled 'Select', with the hit singles 'View from a bridge' and 'Cambodia'. Her newest single 'Child come away' is slowly moving higher up in the charts too.
