Kim Wilde
Written by: Didier Varrod
On receipt of new album by Kim Wilde, a find: a beautiful sleeve. Splendid because since she is not a stunning originality, but does she not add to the value of this superb plastic?
10 new titles including the hit 'Love blonde'. Listening to the hit one could ask: 'This new disc, is it the crossroads of different songs and also very surprising that the glamorous 'Love blonde'? At first listen the album one is fixed. Only her last hit detonates the rest, designed no doubt for reasons obvious unity.
No doubt the lady would hit us very hard in delivering a very strong personal work by giving us more work done, more sophisticated than in previous productions vinyl. Primary concern, provide the first intro: sound, claw Kim Wilde 'House of Salome' one of the most successful titles of this precious disc is however very close to one of his hits of yesteryear: 'View from a bridge ' The sax in addition, perhaps ... Still, this opens the album up nicely, if not happily.
'Back Street Joe', chained and here we are in the mood very techno-pop leaving the keyboard and other sequencers instead casting vote. Allows himself listening pleasure ...
The disc
Intro sidereal and always very concise for what could be a her next hit, 'Stay Awhile' perfect purifier because of all the artifices fashions, even though it sounds 80s. Such a song, just that we may re-listen to in 5 years without being able to specify exactly from which movement-mode it is derived. Moreover, we discover that Kim Wilde sings much better when her voice is paced to a slow tempo.
I would return again on his precious 'Love blonde'. Maybe you'll fuss if I assure that this did not hit the impact of precedents. Yet you can not contradict me! You'll scream if I add more it makes sense. But yes, with that title, one that continues to call the 'baby doll' rock 'n' roll wanted to have fun, and vinyl interposed, throwing a funny wink and well done to all those observers who chronicle the judge and the length of pages. She interpreted the song of his public persona: rhythms relatives of American musicals, to the glory of 'Glamour Girl' (sorry Jack Lang !...) it embodies. One of his best hits, even if not the criteria to appeal to progressive-rock-criticism. Nevertheless in mind is probably one of his titles most rocks.
It is also the only break in the album completely devoted to technology and the synthetic magic of sequencers.
With 'Dream Sequence' you come back, exactly. Perhaps the worst song on the disc. When the synthesizer is used excessively to create a world supposed to be like him... the climate loses its originality. Surprise by turning over the LP. Kim Wilde aims to Funk-inspired 'boom-boom-Disco'. 'Dancing in the Dark' is mixed by Nile Rodgers. That is the explanation! David Bowie after the Master of the gifted, smart organization, responds to the appeal of Kim Wilde. Desire to be fashionable? In the Loop? Not at all! It could be his willingness to 'the hole' inside the U.S. who sulks his success in Europe. In the States, Kim Wilde is far from being a star! It is considered a product too Rock, almost 'new wave'. But yes ... these discs, except 'Kids in America' (which was listed in their chart) das bins are imports. To remedy this, the claw of Nile Rodgers can help Kim Wilde to open doors more easily in the U.S. market. It should also, without too many problems, evoke our heyday of disco.
With 'Shoot to disable' we leave the funk and we plunge back into a climate very similar to that of John Foxx's heyday (when he concocted small wonders like 'Underpass').
At the border between techno-pop and cool-wave (with a rating Prisu to remain popular), 'Can you hear it', is supported by a beautiful melody and a guitar sound that contrasts nicely with dry electronics without soul of the song.
It is located almost at the end of the album. The time to dream on 'Sparks' and noted that 'Sing it out for love' seems seriously inspired by 'Moonlight Shadow' by Mike Oldfield. I do not mean to use bad language but it is edifying to the test...! In short, reached this critical point of the article, one wonders what can make the possession of this one as hard as if that makes me think of some other, and if it bothers me more than the other in remembrance of one of the best hits of note was burning! Well I say this without shame and without fear, listening to this last album is actually very pleasant. It probably suffered influences and ideas from elsewhere, but who cares: An album in the tradition of English pop (say no variety), less than the first Rock and a lot more work, more polished. The voice is nearly perfect and all should, without too much difficulty, be able to listen in a year. An important detail for one to enjoy its discotheque a profitable manner.
On a job well done, Kim Wilde embarked on the promotion operation that called her to perform in concert. Without being asked, she came to visit France, even though - after it - its journalists often distort his remarks because they handle bad English.
The concert
At Pavilion Baltard over 2000 people for a unique concert in Paris. There were lots of people. Many people, programs in hand, T-shirt has the image of the star on the chest, or in kind 'fan-memory' the little click-clack kodak for the record layout superb.
Young audience. Even very young. It is hardly used to that in rock concerts or are believed to be the inevitable return of former colony (familiar muddy festivals beautiful seventies). A different style so that it sounded like a high school exit: Youth, elders, clean, just like the star ...
Besides it has does not see its passage, queluqes copies (sometimes pathetic) of the mysterious Kim's hair! Some were attempting mimicry in the same 100%. No comments!
Still, as she appeared, a great scramble ensued.
'On' veiled see if she was as beautiful in pictures. 'It' was not disappointed! Where I thought she was going to crash, she coped admirably. To observe on TV, you might worry about its image as a rocker. On stage, I decourvre dynamic, almost surly. She wants to prove she saw his own music, Rock 'n Roll. She is doing so without much sores and even with a certain elegance. The musicians played efficiently without ever being alone insistans on titles from the last album. Only at the end of the concert that Kim Offit its fan all of his tubes charts. And there is madness organized! Which goes to say that the media conditionnet everyone is a truism. In a delirium of lighting fireworks and smoke bombs, Kim Wilde is gone on the accents of dynamic 'Kids in America'.
She confided to Numeros 1 she does not consider itself very good on stage has already won the first bet: to be comfortable. She still maintanis (but she is not alone in this case) to give her concerts a real dimension of entertainment. Rock concerts are also sick of certain performance conventions quaint little groups (apart from the Clash) have managed to deflower. Kim Wilde has gone to other horizons, other capitals. France, which gave him his first platinum record for 'Cambodia', it still do not like the kitchen! ... By cons, do you know she knows (name) Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin and the duet 'Heartache' in the French song? if I tell you I dream to hear him sing Ex fan des sixties'!... Something tells me that Gainsbourg could, and rightly make the Brigitte Bardot of Rock! As of the observer to compare images of evil Rock-criticism, everyone would be served, and I am even more for having had the idea first ...
