Love, family and Kim
Written by: Bertrand Tessler
Father, mother, brother, sister... The whole family surrounds Kim Wilde.
Kim Wilde has always fascinated the French: Laurent Voulzy has even dedicated a song to her, 'My nights without Kim Wilde'! But Kim is not only a sex bomb: it is also a woman who has a sense of family ...
Why did you dedicate your last album (Love is) only to love?
In fact, it's still the love that inspires me. It is a theme that constantly renews itself: each of my 'love affairs' is a good opportunity to write a song!
For some titles, you have used a new producer, Rick Nowels, who has worked with Belinda Carlisle.
In the mid-Eighties, it was very fashionable to work with a successful producer. At one point, the producer became more important than the artist or the person who wrote the songs. It was crazy! Me, I prefer to stay away from that. I do not want my album have the sound of someone else. As a result, I worked only with my brother. But we both wanted to explore new avenues. The American producer Rick Nowels gave us a proposal. He came to see us in England while we were already being recorded. In less than half an hour, we decided to do some tracks together!
What did he bring to the table?
Rick gave me confidence. With the exception of my brother, I had never seen anyone so concerned with what I was doing. On the other hand, we have recorded all of it live in the studio, with all the musicians there. I never did that before.
Your brother Ricki has himself been singer...
Absolutely. Moreover, today, he participates in background choirs. Ricki started his career very, very young. What is amusing is that he invited me to the chorus on his own recordings. I was about 12 years, no more!
The age of Roxanne, your sister, who sang on your last album ...
Yes! She is adorable! It's like I was when I was her age: she wants to bite the life from all sides. But she is so shy ...
It's your father, Marty Wilde, a rock star for years 50 that you put your foot in the stirrup. One has the impression that you can not live without your family...
You can add to the list my mother, who looks after my business! She juggles with figures and contracts, which I am incapable to do. When I was a little girl, my father was my hero. But he behaved with it as a pop star: there was never a big 'parties' at home. Our life was centered solely on the family. There is great unity among us. My childhood was really wonderful.
What kind of music is your father into these days?
During a period, he lost interest in music, but he has changed his mind. He is also in the process of writing a 'musical'. Currently, he likes Siouxsie and the Banshees and Morrissey. Last winter, I bought her the t-shirt Morrissey, 'I Hate The Queen'. He wore it during Christmas, it was very funny! However, he hates rap. In the family, I am afraid to be alone to enjoy it ...
