Early life: Born Kim Smith on this date in 1960, in London. Dad is singer Marty Wilde and mum Joyce Baker, a former member of The Vernon Girls. Brother Ricky had a short-lived music career in the 1970s and sister Roxanne is in The Dimestars. Family moved to Hertfordshire when Wilde was nine.
Career: At 19, Wilde recorded Kids In America as a demo. It became a global smash. You Keep Me Hanging On, Four Letter Word and Never Trust A Stranger were also big hits. Toured with Michael Jackson and David Bowie, but the hits dried up in the mid-1990s, so she took a role in the musical Tommy. Began horticultural classes and appeared on TV’s Better Gardens as an expert. In 2001, Wilde started singing again, and took part in a 1980s revival tour. She signed a new recording deal in 2002 and continues to tour.
Love life: Wed Tommy co-star Hal Fowler in 1996. Two children, Harry and Rose.
