80s pop icon Kim Wilde has three major passions: music, cooking and the garden. So she’s teamed up with kitchen expert Magnet to come up with the ultimate Top Ten Tunes To Cook To.
“I love nothing more than listening to music in my kitchen while cooking, entertaining friends or relaxing. For me, music is food for the soul so the kitchen is the ideal place for my Ipod.
“Our kitchen is the hub of the home and music plays a big part in our family life – there is always something playing on the sound system and music is often an ideal way of shaping the family’s mood.
“My musical tastes are very diverse. I love rock, pop, R&B; I’m still a rock chick at heart and even partial to a bit of heavy metal when the mood takes me! Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ is a favourite track of mine, but maybe not perfect for every dinner party!”

What first inspired you to get into music?
With my Dad and Mum both being singers, as well as most of their friends, I have been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. I knew it was what I wanted to do the first time I watched Top Of The Pops. Not a particularly noble aspiration, I admit – some people want to save lives, I wanted to be a Pop Star!
What advice would you give to young British female arists?
Enjoy every minute and write your own
songs
Do your children like and listen to your music?
Yes they do – although Harry is a bit of a metal-head. Rose is more into Pop, but they are both very protective of my songs. They recently heard a new version of Kids In America, called Kids Of The Future, which was a big hit in America, and they told me I should sue them for changing the words!!
