Wilde World: Cliff Richard

Kim Wilde's first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series 'Wilde World' shows.

This week's edition of Wilde World shows you a great piece from the beginning of Marty's career. During his first year of fame, in 1958, the TV show 'Oh Boy!' started airing, and he was a regular on this show. Other regulars were Cliff Richard and Dickie Pride, and as you can see from the clip below, the audience responded in a way that only those audiences could: screaming and yelling in pure admiration. It's interesting to note that this song, plus another duet with Marty called 'Early in the morning' (taken from the last episode of 'Oh Boy!'), were actually released on CD a few years ago. 'Just about as good as it gets' features 71 original recordings by Cliff Richard from 1958 and 1959. If you can't find that one, the compilation 'Three cool cats' is a consolation prize, as it only features the song of the same name.

So did Marty and Cliff cross paths more often? Of course they did. One of these meetings appears on YouTube as well: they sang 'Rubber ball' on TV together in 1961.
