8 fans have dinner with Kim Wilde

October 15, 2000 - On Saturday, October 14, eight Dutch fans have had dinner with Kim Wilde in Tilburg. Animated conversation and a good meal made up a night of fun and reflection.

It all started earlier that day when Dutch fan Ramona made her home the meeting place of nine fans from all over the Netherlands, east to west, north to south. After taking a look at some very rare 78 RPM records by father Marty Wilde, a special room was opened in which videos were shown, amongst which the extremely rare "Dancing in the dark" video, and songs were heard, like rare live renditions of "Premiere rencontre" and "Wonderful world".

Dutch fan Ed showed an impressive collection of Marty and Kim Wilde clippings from various newspapers and magazines, while yours truly provided the evidence of recent press activity by Kim and Joyce, courtesy of Sunday Times.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a series of Ricky Wilde recordings ca. 1973; many of the persons present had never heard these somewhat strange recordings with moments of genius (like for instance an instrumental break in 'I am an astronaut').

Later on, the group went for a meal at the local Mexican restaurant to talk more about Kim and the strangely withdrawn 1998 album. Sure, it's out there in the Universal vaults, but will it ever see the light of day? No-one knows....

Despite the illustration shown here, Kim wasn't really present herself, although she was certainly talked about a lot. The other signatures are from Dutch fans Emiel, Arnold, Arjen, Arthur, Ed, Marcel, Ramona and Martin.

It is hoped that the Dutch Kim Wilde fan meeting will become an annual tradition in or around November...
