New compilation released on Spectrum label
A new compilation album entitled "The Collection" was released by Universal on their midprice label Spectrum on April 16th. At the moment it seems the CD will only be available in the UK, although most releases from Spectrum usually turn up in Europe as well.
The new compilation includes all of Kim's UK chart hits with the exception of The Touch, Heart over mind, In my life and all the hit singles Kim recorded for RAK records between 1981 and 1983.
Errors
The compilation is far from perfect, as one would expect from such a low budget release. The most irritating error is the mastering fault on Never trust a stranger. The first second of the track is missing, which makes for a butchered intro.
Another mistake is the exclusion of single version, which has become standard practice with record companies it seems. Included on this disc are the single versions for You Came and Never trust a stranger, but the versions of The second time, Rage to love, Another step (closer to you), Say you really want me and Hey mister heartache are taken from their respective albums.
The title of the CD is therefore not well chosen: it should have read "A collection", not "The collection".
Postponed
In February, Universal announced the release of a new compilation album, only two months after "You keep me hangin' on" was made available in Germany. The new album, entitled "The Collection", would be released on April 2nd.
The CD was subsequently postponed until April 16th. In all likelihood, Spectrum was waiting for the first broadcast of "Garden Invaders", the program series which Kim recorded episodes for last year. The BBC started airing the program on April 30th.
Details and a full track listing of the new release can be found in the Kim Wilde Discography.
