June 13, 2003 - Kim Wilde joined forces with Westland Horticulture and Squire's to create a garden seating area as part of the celebrations to mark the opening of Squire's tenth garden centre in Long Ditton.

The popular expert used Westland's compost and garden products, along with plants and landscaping materials from Squire's garden centre range, to create a garden which has now been offered to the winner of a local newspaper competition.

Kim visited Squire's Twickenham garden centre - where she created the designer garden area - before officially opening the new garden centre in Long Ditton, Woodstock Lane North. Kim created a tranquil seating area complete with arbour, box hedging enclosing pretty borders and a log cobbled path in-filled with gravel an low growing plants and herbs. Her planting scheme reflected the popular purple colours seen at the Chelsea Flower Show and included perennial Geraniums and Salvia together with Iris and grasses.
Colin Squire, Chairman of the family business which was founded in 1935, said: "We were delighted Kim could join us for the day. We hope the new Long Ditton centre will be an asset to the local community and we aim to provide good quality plants, gardening products and the high level of service customers appreciate from all our centres."

Westland Horticulture's Head of Marketing, Gillian McLean, said: "We were happy to support the opening of the new garden. Squire's is a Westland stockist and we were delighted that Kim demonstrated an innovative way of producing a perfect plot using our products."

The new Long Ditton centre has a modern purpose-built garden shop housing a wide range of gardening products, houseplants, garden furniture, barbeques, gifts and cards together with a coffee shop and a large outdoor plant area.
