KimWilde.com celebrates its 5th anniversary!
1998 - The first big news on KimWilde.com at the new URL was the release of Philharmania, a compilation album including one new track by Kim Wilde. It would be the last musical outing for Kim for some time.
1999 - It was feared for some time, but in 1999 we found out that Kim's fully recorded album was shelved. The recordings have never seen the light of day since then. Happier news for Kim followed when she became pregnant for the second time. Kim starts writing articles about gardening for Prima magazine.
2000 - The year started with the launch of a new version of KimWilde.com. Two weeks later, Kim gave birth to Rose. Meanwhile, ITV (UK) screened Better Gardens, a gardening make-over show featuring Kim as one of the designers. It was the start of a career that Kim hadn't planned on, but one she obviously enjoyed. Episodes were filmed during the time that Kim was pregnant. Meanwhile, KimWilde.com discovered the odd rare cd and new compilation cd. And Kim's sister Roxanne offered some hope for the more musically oriented Kim Wilde fans when she joined the Dimestars.
2001 - The start of 2000 was exciting, but the start of 2001 was no dull one either: right in the first week KimWilde.com found out about a special concert to be held on January 13. It would be the first time in years that Kim would sing live on stage. Together with Fabba she made it a party no-one who was there will ever forget. Only a week later, it was back to gardening, because there was a giant tree waiting for transportation. More gardening followed in April, when Garden Invaders started on the BBC (UK). For the first time ever, fans got a daily dose of Kim Wilde on TV. She also got to present the Chelsea flower show and won the 'Best in show' award at Tatton Flower Show with the beautiful All About Alice garden, which she designed together with David Fountain. Loads of gardening, then, but that didn't mean that Kim was actually through with music. After the Fabba concert, Kim decided she was still interested in performing. The Here & Now Tour was announced in the Summer of 2001. Eight live dates in the UK, together with six other acts to sold out arenas. KimWilde.com gets a restyling: on October 31, 2002, the third version of the website is launched. Meanwhile, a new compilation cd was released with one new track: Loved. Kim was back, singing better than ever and rocking wilder than ever.
2002 - KimWilde.com received more visitors than ever in December 2001, and was preparing for an even more eventful year. In the first week, thanks to a fan, KimWilde.com discovered a rare promo 7" single. In an article, the website was mentioned in print for the first time ever. "Loved" became a top 10 hit in Belgium and had some success in Scandinavia as well. EMI Sweden even printed a poster for The Very Best of Kim Wilde with the URL of KimWilde.com on it. The first DVD releases containing Kim Wilde clips were released. The second season of Garden Invaders featuring Kim was televised in the UK. Born to be wild, a song recorded by Kim for the DTM races, is released in Germany. She appears in Stars in your eyes, twice. Kim records a duet with German popstar Nena. And at the end of the year she does the second Here & Now Tour.
2003 - The Great Garden Guides are recorded for ITV and broadcasted early 2003. Kim appears on the cover of Annabelle, a Swiss magazine. Several European dates at festivals are announced, all over Europe. KimWilde.com gets the most pictures from a date in Tivoli in Denmark's capital city. Anyplace, anywhere, anytime, the duet with Nena, is released on CD-single. It becomes a hit in Germany and Switzerland. Meanwhile, KimWilde.com goes through its fourth restyling. Celebrity Detox is broadcast, a chance to witness Kim showing a spiritual side of herself, although most of the media in the UK focus in on a more, er, crappy part of the program. Rumours of a new album by Kim start flying in the Summer. On October 9th, KimWilde.com celebrates its 5th anniversary on the same day when "Anyplace, anywhere, anytime" reaches no. 1 in the Dutch charts.
KimWilde.com chronicles the life of Kim Wilde: gardener, lover, mother, rock chick, singer, songwriter and sweet inspiration to all who admire her. This website couldn't be what it is now without you, dear reader, and all the people who have contributed to it. The first five years were so good. The next five years promise to be all that, and more. Just you wait and see!
Marcel wishes to thank David, Juan, Katrien, Martin, Nick, Ramona, Steve, Yvonne and you!
