Snow Patrol record 'I am an astronaut'
November 9, 2005 - The band Snow Patrol, famous for their multi-platinum album 'Final Straw', have recorded a cover version of Ricky Wilde's 1972 track 'I am an astronaut'. It will be included in a special compilation album to raise money for children's charities.
Frontman Gary Lightbody said: "This was recorded when he was 10-years-old in the Seventies - he went on to write most of her hits, Kids In America and all that. It has the line 'I am a polar bear' in it so I guess it's appropriate - not that I'm actually a polar bear." Polar Bear was the band's original name before they changed it to Snow Patrol. 'I am an astronaut' was a hit for Ricky in Scandinavia. There were no apparent signs that not Ricky, but Kim was going to be the successful pop singer she was to become in the 1980's. The track is a cult favourite among Kim Wilde fans.
