January 11, 2006 - On July 1, 2004, Kim Wilde and Ian Botham launched the 'Fix the fells' appeal to raise £5 million for the repair of footpaths in the Lake District. 18 months later, the first results can be reported.

So far, the appeal has raised £130,000. The amount was recently increased with a donation of £40,000 from a conservation group. In 2006, 70 footpaths will be repaired by the National Trust. 70 more will have to be done after this year. The UK newspaper News & Star reports on the project in the article Friends fund £40,000 fell footpath repairs.
