Kim Wilde supports Great Daffodil Appeal
The money will be used for the thousands of Marie Curie Nurses nationwide, who provide free home nursing care for terminally ill cancer patients and their families.
"Daffodils are my favourite spring flower as they bring a splash of cheer and colour to the garden during the dark, gloomy days of early spring. This makes them the perfect symbol for the important work that Marie Curie Cancer Care does," says Kim. "By wearing a daffodil pin badge you can help Marie Curie Nurses reach even more of the 150,000 people in the UK terminally ill with cancer – giving them the choice of
being professionally cared for at home, surrounded by the things they hold most dear.
"Thanks to Yellow Pages, which has covered the cost of the Appeal’s promotional materials, funds raised can go straight to the people that need it. You can get your daffodil pin throughout March from thousands of local stores, schools and Marie Curie Shops all over the UK."
Kim has created these five handy tips to help give your garden the professional touch this spring:
• Plant sensuous smelling plants such as mint, lavender or orange blossom to add a great aroma to your garden in the spring.
• Try planting your bulbs in two separate layers. When they grow through each other you will achieve double the effect.
• There are likely to be only a few days when the grass is dry during the winter so take every chance you can to cut the lawn. Grass will continue to grow until the temperature drops to below six degrees Celsius.
• Treat your garden like another room – choose a colour palette and base your planting around those colours.
• During the autumn months, use fallen leaves to make a great fertiliser. Compact leaves tightly into bin bags, add grass cuttings and leave for a year. After this period, the leaves will have rotted down and you can add to soil.
