Kim's last Eighties concert in Esbjerg

""
June 19, 2006 - Danish fans were possibily witnessing a historic event this weekend: the final Eighties concert by Kim Wilde. Whether that is true or not, it certainly was a memorable gig.

After live performances by Nanna, Tony Hadley, Dodo and the Dodos and Level 42, Kim Wilde and her band took to the stage in Esbjerg's Vognsbolparken at 7.05 pm. The sun was still out, like it had been all day, and the audience was once again lining up before the stage.

When the band started with 'Born to be wild', the most avid Kim Wilde fans, who have been following her around Europe for the last few years, were in for a special treat: this is a song that hasn't been played live many times. Kim was surprised to find out that the microphone she was supposed to sing in wasn't plugged in, and so she had to run for the secondary mike, meant for Ricki's backing vocals, in order to still sing the song. A roadie who tried to fix the problem got a deserved kicking for getting in the way... but after that the songs followed one another quickly and energetically. The band included Ricki on guitar and Nick Beggs on bass. Kim did an energetic set and the Danish fans were very enthusiastic, if sometimes a little bit drunk!

Kim ended her set at first with 'You keep me hangin' on', but after a brief pause she came back for two more songs, 'Real wild child' and of course 'Kids in America'. At 8.15 pm, the performance ended. Kim was to be followed by Danish band Rocazino and headliners Human League.

There are no more gigs planned at the moment, and there are indications that a new album is in the works. So this may very well have been the last Eighties concert Kim has done. If so, it was a worthy closure!

Photographs of the concert are available in two galleries: Esbjerg concert and Fan photographs of the Esbjerg concert.
