Kim Wilde is in love – with Calvin Hayes, the drummer and keyboardplayer of the band “Johnny Hates Jazz”. We visited Calvin exclusively in his apartment in St. John’s Wood, near RAK Records, the record company owned by his father Mickie Most. Right opposite Regents Park, ‘Calv’, like Kim calls him full of love, on the top floor of a building, divided into two floors: one with a kitchen next to the entrance door, where he has a space where he keeps spirits and witches, he claims jokingly.
His living room with a view to Regents Park lies one spiral stair higher and is full of pictures of his parents and his family: a good sign. The man who likes his family also loves his wife, is the saying. All these facts were meaningful for Kim, who we spoke after her trip to America and Japan. “Not a lot of people know that Calvin can already be seen on the cover of my first album”, says Kim. That’s how long the two have known one another.
But for a long time the two have only been friends – much like their fathers Marty Wilde and Mickie Most are. But they always had a soft spot for eachother. Calvin always loved blonde girls. And Kim was never the type to fall in love with tall, darkhaired men: she always loved unlikelier types. “For me other things are more important”, she says. “I love someone with charm, humour, and most of all an understanding of the music business.”
All these things are found in Calvin. “We are together every free moment”, says she in the exclusive Bravo interview. “Calvin visited me for most of the Michael Jackson concerts – at the time our love was still a secret.” Either they now meet in Calvin’s apartment or, two blocks down the road, in Kim’s. Whether they will marry soon? “Anything is possible”, says Kim.
