It has been seven years since Kim Wilde (photo) took first place in the charts as an attractive teenage girl with the single ‘Kids in America’. It was one of a long line of hits, performed by a young woman who is now back on the European pop front. Kim recently delivered a brilliant new album. Its title: “Close”. She herself considers this LP – her sixth – to be the most ambitious she has ever made. The last thing Kim let her fans hear was a duet with Mel Smith in ‘Rockin’ around the Christmas tree’. They did this under the name Mel & Kim; the proceeds from that single went to charity. Kim Wilde is now in the spotlight with the song ‘Hey, mr. Heartache’. On the LP ‘Close’ you can hear songs that are quite different from each other. Kim explains: “That’s because my interest in music has changed quite a bit in recent years. I now like to listen to Prefab Sprout, Climie Fisher and The Christians. But Todd Rundgren is still my big favorite. That’s why I also put a song of his, ‘Lucky Guy’, on my album.”
