Pop singer Kim Wilde has just released a new single after a five-month crisis of confidence almost destroyed her career she claims.
The failure of her last album made her so disheartened that she was unable to write songs. But she and her brother Ricki, who co-writes her material, overcame their writer’s block. Kim, 31, said: “We were hyper-critical, almost to the point of not being able to do any writing at all for months.”
“It was difficult to believe we could come up with another successful album our confidence was quite low, it had taken a bit of a knock. Then we wrote one song which sounded good and after that things flowed more easily.” Kim, daughter of 1950 s pop star Marty Wilde, took 13 months to perfect her new album, Love Is, due out on May 18. Her new single, Love Is Holy, was performed on last night’s Wogan TV show. She plans a tour later this year.
Ten years after her first hit, Kids In America, Kim says there is no creative friction between her and her brother. “We have exactly the same idea of what we are looking for in a record. It s uncanny really because we’re quite different. He is a father of two and he hates the limelight while I’m much more outgoing and the family show-off.”
