He may no longer have Christie Brinkley to dangle on his arm, but the glamorous company that turned out for Billy Joel’s party last night more than made up for her, writes Tom Leonard.
The pop star, who celebrated his birthday earlier this week as “a 45-year-old single”, took over the Belvedere Restaurant in Holland Park for the evening. Joel’s visit to Britain has been surrounded by rumours about the breakup of his marriage to the supermodel who inspired his hit Uptown Girl. He plays his third date at Wembley Arena tonight. Last night he played to an equally packed crowd that included Elton John, Jason Donovan, Lulu, Daryl Hall and Tim Rice. At the party afterwards, Sting arrived with his wife Trudie Styler and Paul Young with his pregnant spouse Stacey.
Kim Wilde, 33, about to start a new TV career in Australia, showed off her new image, the Marilyn Monroe look. She sashayed into the restaurant in a figure-hugging black dress.
