Inside look at wedding of the stars

The Gazette/Advertiser’s Mike Austen and his wife Hilary were invited to the wedding of Long Crendon actor Hal Fowler and pop superstar Kim Wilde as private guests, but the paper has reported Hal’s career through thick and thin over mnay years and Hal made it quite clear that he had no objection to his local paper reporting the occasion.

And so, although the national papers and television brought you pictures taken outside the church, here’s a glimpse of what went on in the church and later at the reception.

Kim is the daughter of rock ‘n’ roller Marti Wilde and former Vernons girl Joyce. Hal’s parents still live in Long Crendon – Bob is principal of the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and Penny teaches art at Oxford Brookes University.

Kim and Hal met while rehearsing for the West End hit Tommy. Hal has previously starred in the West End in Aspects of Love, Leonardo and Carousel, but Tommy is Kim’s musical stage debut.

The couple has spent this week on a short honeymoon before Kim returns to Tommy on Monday. As already reported, Hal is out of the show because of a serious knee injury. A recent operation is progressing well but the final outcome will not be known for a while.
