Pout out as not-so-Wilde Kim tries a twin-set role

She looks more like a Hillary Clinton impersonator than the pin-up girl of British pop.

Not that the makeover means Kim Wilde is settling for mumsy middle age – the 35-year-old singer has donned a twinset, if not the pearls, to appear in the West End musical Tommy. Miss Wilde plays Tommy’s mother, Mrs Walker, in the rock opera made famous by The Who.

The role means a temporary farewell to the sexy pout and chic style which have been her hallmark since she achieved stardom 15 years ago with her hit Kids in America.

Nineteen-year-old Paul Keating plays Tommy, the deaf, dumb and blind pinball expert, in the show, which opens on March 5 at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Miss Wilde unveiled her new look at a charity preview attended by Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
