They’re adored by millions but now some of Britain’s best-loved pop acts will pay tribute to their own heroes in Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes, a pop stars special. This pop stars show follows the celebrity divas and Coronation Street specials shown earlier this year when celebrities dressed up for the cameras. The first pop stars show included Boy George as David Bowie and Claire Richards as Karen Carpenter. This time round pop stars disappearing behind those famous doors are Jarvis Cocker, Honeyz, Kim Wilde, Brian Harvey and allStars.
Host Matthew Kelly says, ‘Famous people becoming other famous people is a bit surreal for me. But I have been won over by it all. All five acts are used to singing in front of an audience, but it takes courage to perform as someone else. However, they’ve all risen to the challenge brilliantly.’
Pulp front man Jarvis Cocker will be donning a beard and glasses to become legendary Aussie Rolf Harris. The Honeyz’ Heavenli, Celena and Naima will become Sixties soul sensations The Supremes. Kim Wilde will be travelling back in time to become Fifties girl-next-door Doris Day and former East 17 singer Brian Harvey will become UB40 front man Ali Campbell.
Finally, allSTARS, who’ve had success with their show STARStreet and in the charts, will pay tribute to Steps, who split up last year.
With such an exciting line-up, it’s no wonder Matthew has anxiety dreams. ‘I dreamt that 1 was going to sing on the show, and nobody told me!’ he admits.
