After the very modest presentations in the last few years the “Nokia Night of the Proms” (today and tomorrow in the Festhalle, 8pm), the cult-like mix of pop, rock and classic, has drawn its consequences. And swings like it rarely has.
Bild has already seen the German premiere in Cologne.
The choir “Fine Fleur” gone, “Angels in Harlem” Gospel Choir there – it swings, it grooves, until the hall trembles. The surprise of the evening: Tears for Fears (‘Shout’, ‘The seeds of love’). Sympathetic, great voices, no-one sits still.
Even after 20 years they still make great music: 10CC (‘Dreadlock holiday’, ‘I’m not in love’) and Dennis DeYoung, the voice of Styx (‘Boat On the River’, ‘Mr. Roboto’).
Very comical: The duo Igudesman & Joo. The violinist and the pianist, both brilliant virtuoso, transpose classical music into comedy.
For many the favourite of the evening: Kim Wilde (‘Cambodia’, ‘Kids in America’), who, with an unbelievably good voice, was only surpassed in terms of audience applause by Robin Gibb. My ticket cost 65,40 euro, it was really worth almost as much.
