Singer and professional gardener Kim Wilde reveals her favourite destinations.
Great getaways
“The day after my husband Hal proposed to me, we went for lunch at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire. The food is unbelievable and the gardens are beautiful. My in-laws have a home at Derwent Water in the Lake District. It’s the most idyllic, unspoiled, natural place. In the 90s, I visited Koh Tau, Thailand, where I snorkelled every day. When I was a child, we were allowed in the woodland near our home near Knebworth in Hertfordshire. Now I’m developing my own woodland and we’ve got a two-acre field in which we plant saplings. In the summer we go to the Dordogne in France with my best friend and her kids. When I’ve done my Here And Now gig, at Blickling Hall in Norfolk in July, I’m going to fly to the Dordogne town of Bergerac the next day, make my way to our retreat and hole up for the summer.”
