Despite feeling gloomy I went to the Heldenplein today and I have to say, it did help.
Lady Linn, wearing a cute purple dress and her brass section brought nice swing songs, which the audience on the square reacted much too indifferent.
Then Kim Wilde opened all registers of nostalgia. She still looked good (from where we stood) and had a lot of energy on stage. It sounded rather sharp. Two guitars (of which one from Kajagoogoo), bass (brother), drums and one on a variety of keyboard (yes, the Moog was there too) who overpowered everyone else. She started with two strong tracks such as ‘View from a bridge’ (and I noticed the indifference of the audience again). A bit later her voice was mixed better into the sound and everything became even more entertaining. Hit after hit was played and sometimes I had to dig into my memory… ‘Chequered love’, ‘Love blonde’, ‘You keep me hangin’ on’, ‘Anyplace, anywhere, anytime’, ‘You came’, ‘Cambodia’ and a few surprising covers, ‘Enjoy the silence’ (why oh why) and ‘Ça plane pour moi’ (the first encore). The show closed with a firmly rocking ‘Kids in America’.
It was a very nice evening.
Oh, La Wilde had a fan standing behind her mike stand which blew back her blonde manes while she was singing… ssssexy!
On Wednesday I will go back for Barbie Bangkok & Level 42 (hopefully they will show more than the soulless show they did a few years back on the beach).
