80’S POP star Kim Wilde says she is “amazed” after a video of her singing on a train near Potters Bar attracted more than a million internet views. The singer was returning from a Christmas party in London approaching Potters Bar, when she began to belt out her hit single Kids in America in front of passengers in the train carriage. The spontaneous moment has since become a hit on video website YouTube after one passenger took to her camera phone and recorded the incident.
Kim, who lives in Codicote with her family, is accompanied by brother Ricky on his guitar. This week Kim told the WHT: “I’m amazed by the interest in me being a bit of a lout on the train. It was good fun and I am glad people smiled.”
At one point in the video a merry Kim takes off her reindeer headband and pokes herself in the eye with it as some passengers appear to avoid looking in embarrassment. In the video Kim says: “Everyone, it’s Christmas time. I’m going to sing you a Christmas song. Now I know we’re all sitting on the train here, we’re all ignoring each other like we normally do. “We’re just looking down into our phones and stuff. But hey, it’s a Christmas thing. So join in with us.”
One passenger, who clearly loved the entertainment, was Katherine Eames, who filmed it and posted it on YouTube, where she wrote: “After a truly rubbish day, I got on the train home and couldn’t get a seat, a man pulled out his guitar ‘Oh here we go’ I thought. “Then a woman starts singing. Hang on a minute, I know that voice? It really was Kim Wilde. This totally made my day. Thank you. She is an absolute legend. Merry Christmas everyone.”
On her Twitter account Kim tweeted: “Truly, I am overwhelmed and confused at such a huge reaction to my night out on the tiles. Making me giggle a LOT :)”
