The week leading up to Christmas proved to be a proper musical treat at radio station Jack FM. The breakfast show always has an ‘end of term’ feel just before the festive break, and this year proved no different.
Presenter Steve Folland was joined in the Old Knebworth studio throughout the week by a host of local stars – Aston’s Chas Hodges, of Chas ‘n’ Dave fame, Herts-based folk pop band The Folk, and the Thursday before Christmas was the turn of Codicote’s very own Kim Wilde.
Steve tells me: “We tempted her in with the promise of a mince pie, which she said was nice but not as nice as Katy’s of Welwyn – a nice cheeky plug ensuring her free baked goods for 2012 from her!” (a ‘nice cheeky plug’ repeated here, too!)
“She was funny, chatted away, played our game Buzzword, which she lost to news reader Chris Hubbard despite one of the answers being Rocking Around The Christmas Tree, a fact Chris has dined out on ever since!”
For those readers not too au fait with Ms Wilde’s career, she recorded a version of said song with comedian Mel Smith, reaching number 3 in the 1987 Christmas charts. Steve added: “She finished the show with a great a capella version of her Christmas song, encouraging me to join in – so while she claims to be a big fan of Jack FM, she can’t have heard me sing on air that often!”
