Kim Wilde meets stars of 1980s show in Hertford

Young actors performing a Hertford show set in the 1980s were buzzing when a star from the decade attended the opening night. Codicote singer Kim Wilde, who is a former student of Ware’s Presdales School, was at the first performance of Hertford Dramatic and Operatic Society’s Young Idea production of Back to the 80s at Hertford Theatre on Wednesday (May 15). The show ran at the venue until Saturday and Wilde was contacted by the society as they were performing her iconic song Kids in America, as well as other 80s classics.

Director Gina Ormerod said: “Kim thoroughly enjoyed herself and said they had performed really well and she was even singing along. “It brought back a lot of memories for her. The performers loved it. There was a real buzz in the air that she had made the effort to come.”

The singer went backstage to talk to the children. Gina said: “She spoke to all the children and came backstage for photos.”

The show told the story of the graduating class of a high school.
