No string ballads: it rocked!

Maybe the fans had feared , the stars at “Rock Meets Classic ” would only perform their hits as ballads, accompanied by the gentle sound of strings. Anyway, only about 2,000 people had come to the O2-World to see Midge Ure,  Joe Lynn Turner, Kim Wilde, Uriah Heep and – as headliner – the magnificent Alice Cooper.

Too bad for those who were not there – the show was very entertaining. And the “Bohemian Symphony Orchestra” was merely to amplify the Matt Sinner band which used all the rock cliches. The sound: full and massive. With Scottish charm 80s Star Midge Ure went in. He took over from Rainbow vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, who excelled not only with all the poses of the 70’s rock and a brilliant voice, but also did something very sensible: ask the audience to stand up from their seats and to rock.

Kim Wilde, the next in the program, looked like a mix of Doro Pesch and Ellie Goulding’s aunt dressed in black leather and still looking sweetly. Their hit “Cambodia” made for a mood high point. Humoriously Uriah Heep came on, the frontmen, Mick Box and Bernie Shaw, were extremely energetic and a bit flippant.

The highlight though: Alice Cooper. The “King of Shock Rock ” grunts and roars , looking angry and enjoying his show. Self-deprecating and totally exaggerated. At the very latest during the glorious “Poison” everyone should have been looking forward fervently to have come here.
