Pop icon Kim Wilde celebrates the still valid mix of rock, pop and new wave on her new album “Closer” (Cherry Red Records). The opening track “Midnight Train” already subsumes all the virtues from “Kids in America” to “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” to “Cambodia” – wonderfully anachronistic and mega-retro, at the same time it serves the longing for the familiar and her unmistakable Kim evergreen sound, with new, “old” catchy tunes like “Trail of Destruction” or the anthemic-theatrical duo with Midge Ure “Sorrow Recplaced”. “Recording Closer was really an absolute joy… it feels like the natural companion to “Close” from 1988, and I think it perfectly reflects where I am musically today.”
