Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Morella's Forest.
As you have probably guessed by now, the most often covered Kim Wilde song is 'Kids in America'. Kim's debut single has inspired many artists to do their own versions. Many of these covers are rock- and punk-inspired. And that makes this week's cover version by Morella's Forest extra special, because it's such a relaxed, almost spacey version.
Morella's Forest formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1992 by Sydney Rentz (vocals, lyrics), Shawn Johnson (guitars/keyboards), Sean McCorkle (bass), and Nate McCorkle (drums). They released their debut album 'Superdeluxe' in 1995, sounding a lot like new wave and 'shoegazing' music, with dreamy and hypnotic melodies. Their second album 'Ultraphonic hiss' appeared a year later, with 'From Dayton with love' following in 1998. On this album, their cover of 'Kids in America' appears. It is a dreamy, slow version, quite different from other cover versions of the song, as you can hear below.
Morella's Forest's final album 'Tiny lights of heaven' appeared in 2002. Shortly afterwards, the band broke up.
