Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Pulsedriver.
Pulsedriver was born as Slobodan Petrovic Jr. on February 22, 1974 in Trappenkamp (Germany). He started DJ'ing in the Eighties and became better known in the Nineties under the aliases DJ Tibby and Aqualoop. In November 1997 he uses the name Pulsedriver for the first time. Between 1997 and 2000 he releases a handful of singles with varying levels of success. In 2001, Pulsedriver releases a cover of Kim Wilde's 1981 hit Cambodia. He isn't the first to release a dance-oriented cover of the track, but he certainly is the most successful: his version reaches number 11 in the German singles chart and no. 5 in Austria.
As any dance act will know, releasing several remixes is usually a good way to attract attention in the clubs, and this is why there were several 12" singles and cd-singles released at the time - and even a 10" single. All these formats have resulted in six different versions of Pulsedriver's 'Cambodia': a short vocal mix, a club mix, the Green Court remix, the DJ Tibby remix, Fragma remix, an album edit (the album version is the same as the club mix).
Kim herself was quite pleased by this cover version apparently: in early 2002, Pulsedriver created a remix of her single 'Loved'.
