Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: the Wynona Riders.
Why this American band named themselves after the actress Winona Ryder we'll probably never know. In 1995 they recorded their debut album 'J.D. Salinger' (named after the writer), which contained a 'rough and ready' cover of Kim Wilde's 'Kids in America'. There are many covers of that song, and compared to many other punk-inspired covers it is perhaps not so special. The album as a whole, however, is remarkable for its number of tracks - 30 in total, including some short untitled ones, and some weird songtitles like 'Catfish discipline' and 'No, you suck'.
The band, meanwhile, released four more albums and broke up at the start of this century. The Encyclopedia on this site gives you more information about the Wynona Riders.
