Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: American Juniors.
During the summer of 2003 the American television show American Juniors was broadcast. The American Idol-spinoff worked with the idea of children getting into a five-piece musical group one at a time, which meant that some children had their dream come true while others were suddenly robbed of all their illusions. While the show was running - in August 2003 - the first group of winners recorded a single 'One step closer' with a cover of Kim Wilde's 'Kids in America' on the B-side. At that point in time, the group consisted of Taylor and Tori Thompson, Chauncey Matthews, Lucy Hale, Danielle White, AJ Melendez, Morgan Burke, Chantel Kohl, Katelyn Tarver and Jordan McCoy. From these ten, five children were picked to become part of a group.
Shortly after the programme ended, a full album by American Juniors, also titled 'Kids in America', was released. Half of the album was filled with tracks of the eventual winners - Taylor, Tori, Chauncey, Lucy and Danielle - while the other half also featured the rest of the pack.
There is an amusing write-up of what the juniors have been up to on the Cookies & Sangria blog.
