Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Bouncing Souls.
There are never enough cover versions of 'Kids in America', or so it seems. The song is especially popular among punk rock bands in America - and the version by Bouncing Souls is one of those versions. The Bouncing Souls formed in New Jersey in 1989. The band's name was derived from Doc Martens shoes, advertised at the time with the slogan 'with bouncing soles'. The air-cushioned soles are a staple of punk dress. Between 1994 and 2001 they released five studio albums.
2002 brought a B-sides compilation, called 'The bad, the worse and the out of print', and this is where their cover version of 'Kids in America' popped up. The track was originally released in 1994, on an EP featuring three cover versions, the other two being 'Video killed the radio star' by Weston and 'Do they know it's Christmas' by Weston and Bouncing Souls together. The band is still together, their most recent album 'Simplicity' was released earlier this year.
