Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Human Hamster Hybrids.

The German ska/punkband Human Hamster Hybrids was founded in the first half of the Nineties by Alex B. (a.k.a. Dr. Bacterius, 6-string guitar) and Wohnzimmer (Guitar, vocals), during a drinking session when they decided to start a Ramones coverband. They found P.K. Ripper (Drums) and Max Mabuse a.k.a. El Duce (Bass). After recording some demos, including a punk cover of Kim Wilde's song Chequered Love, they attracted the attention of audiences and record labels alike. The cover version ended up on a compilation album called Punk Chartbusters, released by Wolverine Records in 1995.

They contributed the German-language song 'Ein Neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben' to the 1997 compilation 'Kuschelpunk'. In 2001, they released their first album 'Dance classics' on the Wolverine label, which also included that version of 'Chequered Love', along with more cover versions of familiar songs like Abba's 'Mamma Mia'. A second album, 'Radio Punkrock', was released in 2008. No further albums appeared, but they did perform live many times around Germany. A farewell concert happened on April 16, 2011.
