Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Mona Carita.

While our Cover Friday feature has been running for 18 months now, we haven't really had a chance to write about the origins of 'Kaupungin lapset', the Finnish version of Kim Wilde's 'Kids in America'. One of the first episodes included the version by TikTak, but that one was released in 2001, whereas the first version of 'Kaupungin lapset' was released already in 1981!

The song was originally recorded by Mona Carita. It appeared on her third album 'Nykyaikainen', and was subsequently released as a single. The FInnish translation was provided by Raul Reiman, a prolific writer and arranger who'd also translated songs like Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition', the Righteous Brothers' 'You've lost that lovin' feeling' and Gerry Rafferty's 'Baker Street'.

Is it just a coincidence that Mona appeared on the sleeve of both the album and the single with bare shoulders, just like Kim did on the cover of 'Kids in America'? Who knows...
