Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Jiřina Urbanová.
Most fans have worked out that Kim's new single 'Pop don't stop' contains elements of her 1981 hit single 'Cambodia'. The song has already inspired many people to record a cover version, as this series of 'Cover Fridays' has already show. This week's version is a special one, because it was recorded in a time when Europe was still divided by the so-called 'Iron curtain'.
The country was still called Czechoslovakia when Jiřina Urbanová recorded 'Ať Život Má Svůj Děj', a Czech version of 'Cambodia', translated by Václav Babula. It was released in 1984, as one side of a split single. The other side featured Martin Javůrek with the original song 'V Pátek Nevolej'. Urbanová released a handful of singles between 1984 and 1987 and then disappeared from view.
