Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Elvira Voca.
Kim Wilde's 'The Second Time' has not been covered a lot, which is surprising, because it's such a powerful song. This was recognized early on in Yugoslavia. On an LP called 'Top Ten 2 - Internacionalni Hitovi' the best hits of the year 1984 were covered by Yugoslavian artists. 'The Second Time' was covered in Croatian as 'Drugo Vrijeme' by Elvira Voca. Not much is known about Elvira - just that she was married to Stjepan Milhaljinec from 1961 until his death in 2014. She also made a name for herself as an actress, starring in the movies 'Mediteransko putovanje' (1962) and 'Dobro jutro, Hrvatska' (1992).
Her cover version of 'The second time' recently resurfaced on a compilation album called 'Socialist Disco - Dancing behind Yugoslavia's Velvet Curtain 1977-1987', released on October 10, 2018 in Croatia. The compilation is well worth checking out if you want to find out more about Yugoslavia's music scene during that time.
