Kim Wilde's first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series 'Wilde World' shows.
Ricky Wilde's debut single 'I am an astronaut' has had more of an impact than one would think. Through the years this website has identified several cover versions of the song. Most of them have come from Scandinavia, but there have been a few occurances in other countries as well. The latest discovery is called 'Nemám se zkrátka prát' and was recorded back in 1976 by Czechoslovakian artist Jaromír Mayer.
Mayer was born in Prague on July 22, 1943. His music career started in the 1960's, when he recorded several singles on the Supraphon label. His only LP release happened in 1976. Entitled 'Máš přítele', the album featured 14 tracks, one of which is 'Nemám Se Zkrátka Prát', a Czech translation of 'I am an asronaut' by Zdeněk Borovec. The album also features cover versions of Micky's 'The mouth organ boy', Peter, Paul & Mary's 'All my trials' and Carole King's 'You've got a friend', as well as original material from Czechoslovakian artists. On most tracks, Mayer provides the vocals, but 'Nemám Se Zkrátka Prát' is sung by an uncredited young boy. You can listen to the version right here:
