Kim Wilde has released many songs during her career. Some of them have been covered by other artists. On Cover Friday, Wilde Life presents cover versions of Kim Wilde songs. This week: Apoptygma Berzerk.
The Norwegian band Apoptygma Berzerk is not unknown, having been in the business for two over decades already. They have released six studio albums and many EP’s during that time. Their 2005 album ‘You and me against the world’ remains their most popular, as it almost broke them into the mainstream. It contains their biggest hit to date: ‘Shine on’, which reached no. 13 in the German singles chart. That album also contained the band’s cover of Kim Wilde’s ‘Cambodia’, which was subsequently released as a single as well, reaching number 67 in Germany.
Lead singer Stephan Groth confesses to being quite the Kim Wilde fan in his younger days: ‘Kim Wilde was one of the first girls that I fell in love with. I was twelve or something… I was always a big Kim Wilde fan and I love this ‘Cambodia’ song most of all’.
