It’s My Life

Song written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene.

Talk Talk version

The song was originally recorded on Talk Talk’s second album of the same name and released as its lead single in January 1984. It peaked at number 46 in the UK singles chart, but did better in several other countries, particularly in Italy where it got to number 7. It was also a success in North America, entering the Top 40 in both the United States (number 31) and Canada (number 30). (Notably, it peaked at number 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.) The single was re-released in the UK in 1985, but this time only reached number 93.
However, in 1990, ‘It’s My Life’ was reissued again to promote the compilation album ‘Natural History: The Very Best of Talk Talk’. This time, the song was a hit in the UK, reaching number 13, making it the band’s highest charting single in its native country.

The song was subsequently covered by various bands, most notably No Doubt, who had a top 10 hit with it in most territories in 2003.

Kim Wilde version

Kim performed ‘It’s My Life’ during her four date tour in the Netherlands in October 2015 and October 2016.

Lyrics

Funny how I find myself in love with you
If I could buy my reasoning, I’d pay to lose
One half won’t do

I’ve asked myself, how much do you commit yourself?
It’s my life, don’t you forget
It’s my life, it never ends (It never ends)

Funny how I blind myself, I never knew
If I was sometimes played upon, afraid to lose

I’d tell myself, what good you do
Convince myself
It’s my life, don’t you forget
It’s my life, it never ends (It never ends)

I’ve asked myself, how much do you commit yourself?
It’s my life, don’t you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends
It’s my life, don’t you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends
It’s my life, don’t you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends
