Born in Paris in 1965 but raised in London, C.J.’s DJ career began at the age of 15 when he and his 17-year-old brother set up their own sound system and began playing house parties in South London, mixing up disco, jazz, funk, soul and early hip hop.
Mackintosh actually started out as a hip hop DJ, winning the 1987 finals of the DMC mixing championships. After his initial success he provided megamixes for different labels. He went on to work as a DJ in England and in the United States. His remixing proved ever more rewarding. Together with Dave Dorrell, he mixes MARRS’ ‘Pump up the Volume’, one of the most recognized themes in dance music.
Chris “C.J.” Mackintosh’s standard approach of radio-friendly, lush arrangements, is too Middle of the Road for many clubbers, but in the mainstream his technique is highly acclaimed. His clients include Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Lisa Stansfield and of course Kim Wilde, who used his talents for the album Now & forever.
