Silent Night

‘Silent Night’ is a traditional and popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song ‘Stille Nacht’ were written in German by the priest, Father Josef Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz X. Gruber. The version of the melody that is generally sung today differs slightly (particularly in the final strain) from Gruber’s original.

On the album Wilde Winter Songbook, she used part of the song in the track Burn Gold/Silent Night.

Live performances

Kim Wilde sang ‘Silent night’ live during a Christmas concert in Kirchbrombach, Germany on December 10, 2006 and then again on 12 and 14 December during her Christmas concerts at Knebworth House, and again during Christmas gigs in December 2015.

Lyrics

Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night
Holy night
Shepherds quake
at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born

Silent night
Holy night
Son of God
Oh loves pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus Lord at Thy birth…
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
