Kim performs a medley of ‘Anyplace anywhere anytime’ and ‘They don’t know about us’ with a band consisting of local musicians. After her performance, she is briefly interviewed.

With Nena you recorded a duet. How did that happen? Who contacted whom? Of two world stars, who talks to whom first to arrange working together?
Well, Nena contacted me. We were at a media party in Berlin. She asked me, and I hadn’t seen her in years and I said ‘I’d love to’, and it became a great hit, it was fantastic.

On your website you can choose between English and German. So I think, do you have so many fans in Germany? Why is it also in German?
Well I have a German record company, I’m signed to a German record company, I’ve been coming to Germany for many years and we go back a long way. So thank you very much Germany.

Tell me something about the new album, ‘Snapshots’.
‘Snapshots’ is my tribute to pop music, I’ve loved pop music all my life. It spans five decades, from 1964 right through to 2007. And I’m really proud of it. It’s my 50th birthday, my 50th year, it’s like a present to myself as well as my fans.

Did you choose tracks you really love, or did you choose tracks that really fit together well on a cover versions album?
They’re quite diverse, you know. There’s something from the Buzzcocks and something from the Sugababes, Diana Ross, all the songs that I’ve loved through the years as well as songs that fit my voice.

The tour next year, when does it happen?
We start next March and I’ll be on tour for a few weeks. If you go on to kimwilde.com all the dates are there and I’d love to see you there.

On the occasion of Nena’s 50th birthday, the German channel RTL broadcast a two hour show with many guests, including Kim. An old interview clip in which Kim talks about her project with Nena is shown, after which she performs ‘Anyplace, anywhere, anytime’ live together with Nena.

With the 50th birthday of Nena looming, Frühlingszeit broadcasts a report about her career. Austrian artists such as Waterloo and the Rounder Girls say a few words, and also Kim appears in this report. She says how the duet ‘Anyplace anywhere anytime’ came to be, with an Austrian voice-over.

This programme about the first decade of this century features a short clip about Nena, who has a hit with her album ‘Nena feat. Nena’. During this clip, two short scenes of Kim singing in the studio for ‘Anyplace, anywhere, anytime’ are shown. This TV clip is only 20 seconds long and also includes scenes from the music video of ‘Anyplace, anywhere, anytime’.

Programme dedicated to the greatest hits in Germany between 1978 and 2003, the years that the charts in that country were compiled by Media Control. Nena is in the show to pick up an award for her big success with ’99 Luftballons’ in 1982, plus subsequent hits. She performs her new single with Kim Wilde, ‘Anyplace, anytime, anywhere’, in front of a live audience. It is a lip-synched performance.

I studied and lived in London for many years so when Nena sent me the song with Kim I said ‘let´s go film with Kim in London’. For the look of the video I was channeling the Heaven 17 clip for ‘Let me go’, with the empty streets look and of course we also shot in The City. I was a bit nervous meeting Kim because i was a big fan of hers since the 80s. I remember coming into the costume trailer early in morning, Kim was already there and the first thing I said to her was, ‘I am so so sorry but can’t shake your hand because I have the worst cold and you have to be in perfect shape today’. She was of course very sweet about it and got me a huge cup of VERY hot tea from craft service. We talked about some of the other bands having revivals like Spandau Ballet and of of course her gardening show and how much fun she was having with Nena to record the song and performing it live with her. My choreographer friend Venol King came in to give some input on the performance of Kim and Nena. We tried some things out but pretty much stuck with my original idea to have the two of them sing right “at each other” while we circle around them with a the camera on a Steadicam rig. The Steadicam set up was actually a bit of a challenge because we had five people (camera, focus puller, gaffer, make-up and me) run a tight circle around the girls without tripping over. After circling five rounds one way we had to reverse direction to unwind the electric cable again – before it strangled us like a python. (Filmmaking is a silly job really.) Apart from the great solo and duet performances with Kim and Nena I figured I needed a mini story, just something small “for the mood”. We already had two strong women performing, so I thought let´s cast a young guy who explores the city and ends up going to a strange party with dancers and performance artists. Probably a bit like myself when i moved to London at 17 years. The creative process brings out some of your personal journeys I suppose. We filmed Nena and Kim till about 7.00 in the evening and then moved onto the Roundhouse, a location in Camden to film the “arty party”. We wrapped just after one. It was all shot on one long day – like may music videos. I had a lovely crew but the most important credit really goes to Kim and Nena for delivering such charming and warm performance. I love the little gestures, the smiles the shared laughs.
