Your Mistake

Song written by Phil Thornalley & Mike Nocito. Kim Wilde performed backing vocals on this song by Johnny Hates Jazz, which appears on their second album ‘Tall Stories’, released in 1991.

Lyrics

Hello again
I guess you’re in trouble
You pretend that nothing’s wrong
You call me up
When you’ve got a problem
Silence when the problems gone

You think I’m so easy
But you’re never further from the truth
Every time it rings
I know it’s you

There’s nothing left to say
This torch has burned away
You took too long I could not wait
I do believe there’s nothing left to say

All your life
So much attention
A camera flash and you turn your head
I’ll tell you now
Would it make any difference
You never listened to a word I said

Always there when you need me
But you’re never here when I need you
I can’t be your friend
‘cos I want to be your fool

There’s nothing left to say
This ship has long since sailed away
I picked up my pride and I’m on my way
I believe there’s nothing left to say
Except – It’s your mistake
It’s your mistake

You Have to Learn to Live Alone

Song written by Michel Berger, Luc Plamondon and Tim Rice. Kim Wilde performed this track together with Michel Berger on the French television program Champs Elysées on 12 May 1990. They never recorded the track. It is unknown if there were any plans to do so.

Another version of the track can be found on Cyndi Lauper’s CD-single ‘The World Is Stone’.

Lyrics

Michel: We sleep together, close and warm
We calm each other through the storm
We set up home, but in a while
We’re tempted by another’s smile
But when it’s all played out
If the truth were known
You have to learn to live alone

Kim: We dance around the fading light
He holds her closer every night
He fell in love but she did not
But in the end he’s all she’s got
When it’s all played out
When the truth is known
You have to learn to live alone

Both: We fly around the world too fast
We cannot make one moment last
Kim: We love the crowd
Both: We sing and play
Kim: We do it all
Both: We get our way
Kim: When we’re all played out
When the truth is known
Both: We have to learn to live alone

Kim: When we’re all played out
If the truth were known
Both: You have to learn to live alone
To live alone

You and Me

Song written by Zachary Johnson. The track was recorded in early 2002 by the German band Readymade with backing vocals by Kim Wilde. It was released in Germany on the album ‘The Feeling Modified’ in July 2002.

Lyrics

Could you stay, for a while
just as long for me to say
We grew old, yet unknown
are the days still to come

Could we ask for more
feelings to explore
When it’s dark outside and the feeling’s right
But too soon, comes the time
when I’ve had enough
feel like giving up

Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me
Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me

I will concentrate
and evaluate
Every step I take, promises I’ll break
But too soon, comes the time
When the odds once fair
seem to disappear

Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me
Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me

Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me
Yeah, together we’ll try it
together again
Yeah, just you and me

Turn Back the Clock

Kim about ‘Turn back the clock’

I have known Calvin Hayes since the ‘Kids in America’ days. In fact he’s on my very first album sleeve! I bumped into him while going to the dry cleaners one day, and I told him how much I liked ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Hero’, and if he wanted anymore backing vocals to give me a call. So he did.

Lyrics

Another day is ended
And I still can’t sleep
Remembering my yesterdays
I begin to weep
If I could have it over
Live my life again
I wouldn’t change a single day

I wish that I could turn back the clock
Bring the wheels of time to a stop
Back to the days when life was so much better

Lying here in silence
Picture in my hand
Of a boy I still resemble
But I no longer understand
And as the tears run freely
How I realise they were the best years of my life

I wish that I could turn back the clock
Bring the wheels of time to a stop
Back to the days when life was so much better

You might say it’s just
A case of giving up
No
But without these memories where is the love
Where is the love

If I could have it over
Live my life again
I wouldn’t change a single day

I wish that I could turn back the clock
Bring the wheels of time to a stop
Back to the days when life was so much better

Why can’t I turn back the clock
Bring the wheels of time to a stop
Back to the days
Oh no no
I remember when
Life was so good
I’d go back if I could
Oh oh I wouldn’t change a single day
Don’t let the memories slip away
I wouldn’t change a single day
Don’t let the memories slip away

Hunt for Zero Point (the)

Song from the band Sonic Hub which features Kim Wilde on vocals.
It was written after Sean Vincent read the book of the same name, written by Nick Cook in 2002. The book details one man’s journey to discover the truth behind the myth that is ‘anti-gravity’ propulsion and the associated technologies.
When it came to writing songs for Sonic Hub’s 2006 album ‘Eye of the Storm’, Sean had already persuaded Rick Wilde to read the book and before long Sean had got the basics of ‘Zero Point’ recorded. He wanted to create a piece that captured the mystery, underhand dealing and downright weirdness of the book’s awesome story. With Rick’s help, Sean feels he’s captured exactly that.
When it came to adding the vocal, Sonic Hub knew that they wanted to continue their theme of taking artists out of their comfort zone, which is why they asked Kim to do the opera style vocal. A world away from Kim Wilde’s usual pop/rock style, she did a stunning performance, adding a finishing touch to this eerie and unusual electro-dance track.

In January 2007, Sean from Sonic Hub met Nick Cook in London for chat about the book, the song, and generally about all things related to the subject. Sean went armed with questions about the some of the book’s unsolved mysteries and the pair exchanged a signed copy of the album and a signed copy of the book.
Sean said of the meeting, “It was a fantastic opportunity to meet someone i really admire and then pick his brains! Nick is a thoroughly nice bloke who obviously loves his work and his enthusiasm about the song really makes it all worthwhile. To be able to chat to the author of my favourite book over a beer is just fantastic…and it’s not lost on me that this is a rare perk of the business we’re in.”

Nick Cook responded: “I was amazed when Sean first wrote to me to say that Sonic Hub had produced a track inspired by The Hunt For Zero Point, but, then again, the book does seem to have had an impact on people I’d never have guessed at when I sat down to write it five years ago. I love the track, am very happy that Kim Wilde is featured on it, and think it captures the essence of the book – a mixture of the sense of wonder, mystery, threat and hope that I felt when I went out on the road to research it. I wish Sonic Hub, Eye of the Storm and everyone involved in it every success with an album that deserves to do very well …”

Versions

There are twoversions of ‘The hunt for zero point’: the album version and The Long Firm’s Twitchy mix.

Kim about ‘The Hunt for Zero Point’

When Kim was asked about recording the Sonic Hub track and whether she enjoyed doing opera vocals, she replied: “I did. I remember when I first met Hal, he used to play me lots of different kinds of music I never sat down and listened to before. One of the things he used to play a lot to me was this beautiful music by Górecki. Do you know it? It’s (Symphony of Sorrowful songs – ed.). It’s actually used quite a lot in MTV and documentaries and stuff. It’s extremely haunting and very very moving, very very beautiful. So when Ricki asked me to do that I did think of Górecki and I thought I’d like to do more of that sort of singing. I’ve got the sort of physical power now to find notes from that place where opera singers sing. I’m not trained in that way. But my husband Hal is very interested, and can sing opera very well. It does interest me.” (1)

Teddy Bear

Song written by Kal Mann and Bernie Lowe, originally published in 1957.

The song was a US number 1 hit for Elvis Presley during the summer of 1957, and his third of the four that he would have that year.

In 1982, Johnny Hallyday and Kim Wilde sang a cover of the song during a broadcast of the show ‘Formule 1+1’. It is the only time Kim has sung the song.

Lyrics

Baby let me be
your lovin’ teddy bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be
your teddy bear.

I don’t wanna be a tiger
’cause tigers play too rough
I don’t wanna be a lion
’cause lions ain’t the kind you love enough

Just wanna be
your lovin’ teddy bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be
your teddy bear.

Superstars

Song written by Born Meirlaen, Ward Snauwaert and Radhika Vekaria. Recorded by Born Crain with backing vocals by Kim Wilde. Released as the first single from Born Crain‘s fourth album ‘Identity’. The music video shows a drawing of the face of Kim Wilde being made, which then slowly morphs into Born’s face.

Lyrics

Kim Wilde (spoken):
It’s all one fleeting moment
Easily stolen away
Don’t let it appear as if it never existed
Step into the light
This is your moment to shine

Born Crain:
Don’t underestimate the dreams you make in the silence of the night
Missing pieces of your life
It’s easy to hesitate while you’re awake and the world is passing you by
It’s gone in the blink of an eye

See when the day takes on the night
It’s never how you like
And you wanna disappear
And you’re running from the light
Waiting for the dark
’cause we are superstars

What are we waiting for?
We can’t ignore the flame that burns inside
It’s turning into a fire
It’s easy to play it safe while you’re awake
with ashes of your life
Flying about of the pyre

See when the day takes on the night
It’s never how you like
And you wanna disappear
And you’re running from the light
Waiting for the dark
’cause we are superstars

See when the day takes on the night
It’s never how you like
And you wanna disappear
And you’re running from the light
Waiting for the dark
’cause we are superstars

If there was love

Song written by Nathan Moore. Track recorded in 2001 by Kim Wilde with Nathan Moore. After trying to get the track released by a record company, Nathan finally decided to put the track on his website in 2002 as an MP3 file

Lyrics

Why can’t you just trust in me
(If there was love)
Hold me close
I’ll make you see
(If there was love)
I’ll be yours forever

I can feel heaven calling
Lost in my eyes I’m falling
You are the one I’ve been praying for
Lost in a strange emotion
Deeper than any ocean
Hoping to find what I’ve been looking for
I want more
More than you could know

(If there was love)
Then we could fly
and kiss the sky
We could do anything if we try
(If there was love)
I’m yours this time
I’d be in heaven if you were mine
(If there was love)
Just understand it’s in your hands
We could do anything if we try
If there was love

Now I can feel you near me
I see the dream so clearly
I realise how I’ve been missing you
Picture our lives together
Lost in your world forever
Hoping to find what I’ve been looking for
I want more
More than you could know

(If there was love)
Then we could fly
and kiss the sky
We could do anything if we try
(If there was love)
I’m yours this time
I’d be in heaven if you were mine
(Heaven if you were mine)
(If there was love)
Just understand it’s in your hands
We could do anything if we try
If there was love

You find the answers if you look into your heart
(Look into your heart)
And you see the truth just staring at you
No need to fear
I will be here
I’ll turn your world around baby
If there was love
If there was love

(If there was love)
Then we could fly
and kiss the sky
We could do anything if we try
(If there was love)
I’m yours this time
I’d be in heaven if you were mine
(Heaven if you were mine)
(If there was love)
Just understand it’s in your hands
We could do anything if we try
If there was love

(If there was love)
If there was love
(If there was love)
If there was love
(If there was love)
Why can’t you just trust in me
Hold me close
(If there was love)
I’ll make you see
I’ll be yours forever

I believe in visions
I believe in love
I believe in magic, but this is not enough

I believe in freedom (Yes I do)
I believe in dreams (Yes I do)
I believe in heroes (Yes I do)
But this is not enough (Yes it’s true)

DJ Bobo:
I believe all you give, you get returned
I believe in knowledge I can learn
I believe in dreams, never stop
Life is too precious, you can’t give up
Afraid we miss the chance
of losing our innocennce
The future in our hands

Kim Wilde:
I believe in visions
I believe in love
I believe in magic, but this is not enough
I believe in freedom
I believe in dreams
I believe in heroes, but this is not enough

DJ Bobo:
I believe there is more than wrong or right
I believe in colours there’s no black or white
I believe you don’t know what you have got
until you lose it, we can’t give up
Raise your voice, don’t drown away
Believe in freedom every day
All together is the way

Kim Wilde:
I believe in visions
I believe in love
I believe in magic, but this is not enough
I believe in freedom
I believe in dreams
I believe in heroes, but this is not enough

DJ Bobo:
I believe in visions
I believe in love
I believe in magic, but this is not enough

Every Woman Knows

Song by Lulu, released as a single on 14 November 1994.
The music video for this single features guest appearances by Kim Appleby, Boy George, Jennifer Saunders, Heather Small and Kim Wilde. They do not sing on the track.

Lyrics

Deep in the night
She sits alone
Still hears only lies
Talked down the phone

Haven’t you learned baby
You can’t fool that girl
All the chairs you’ve been spinning boy
are older than the world

Oh Every woman knows
Whenever she’s been lied to
Oh every woman knows
But who’s she gonna cry to

This time around
could be your last
‘cos you’re repeating patterns
just like in the past

How many chances baby
is she gonna give
Though she tries she can’t forget
Heaven knows she can’t forgive

Oh Every woman knows
Whenever she’s been lied to
Oh every woman knows
But who’s she gonna cry to
Oh Every woman knows
When her man’s been cheating
Oh every woman knows
With the company you’re keeping
you’re not what she’s needing

There’s no denying baby
You’ve been lying lately
Now he’s crying baby
so cry boy, cry boy

Oh every woman knows
Oh every woman knows
She’s got intuition
Oh every woman knows
When her man’s been cheating
Oh every woman knows
You’re not what she’s needing
Why can’t you believe it
Oh every woman knows

Martyn Ware about ‘Every Time I See You I Go Wild’

‘Every Time I See You I Go Wild’ is an arrangement masterpiece created entirely on Roland System 100 by my collaborator Brian Duffy from Modfied Toy Orchestra, featuring a stunning reinterpretation by Kim Wilde – kind of music noir. (1)

Ah… Kim Wilde. What a beautiful woman. Always had a bit of a crush on her, to be honest. From the point of view of the music on this, I became obsessed with quite a few Northern Soul of that particular time, always loved soul anyway. I love the idea of taking Northern Soul flavoured tracks and slowing them down and forcing a reinterpretation of the lyrics and in this particular instance we decided to make this quite ‘noir’. I asked a friend of mine… ‘Electro noir’ is better I think… I asked a friend of mine Brian Duffy, who’d just bought a Roland System 100, which is one of the first synths we ever owned as the Human League, and was responsible for things like ‘Being boiled’, I asked him if he’d be interested in doing an arrangement of this track, since it was a new toy for him. What he came back with was about a 100 different monophonic tracks, almost symphonically arranged, which blew me away completely. The sounds are absolutely beautiful on this track and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the job he did on this. So all the credit really goes to him, apart from the mix of course and the vocals. Kim’s vocals on this are staggeringly brilliant. I honestly believe it could well be her best ever performance. And several people have mentioned this to me that they believe this is the case as well. (2)

Kim about ‘Every Time I See You I Go Wild’

Now at last I get to work on a B.E.F. project, how fantastic! The Stevie Wonder track Martyn sent was unknown to me, but I’ve always been a huge Stevie fan, both Martyn and I are really excited with the result of ‘I go wild’. A fantastic night at the Roundhouse in Camden last year showcased the new B.E.F. project ‘Dark’ for the first time, with an array of wonderful artistes coming together under one vision. I am so proud to be part of the continuing B.E.F. story. (1)

Lyrics

Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild
Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild

everytime I see your face I feel an earthquake coming on
Ooh you shake me up and you break me down ’til all my self-control is gone
you’re all the things I’ve ever wanted
Ooh, underneath the rising sun
Baby just one look at you, my heart cries for you
‘cos I love you, love you (love you, love you)

Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild
Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild

You’ve got sweet magic in your eyes and it makes you the master of my soul
Ooh Just one look and all my strength is gone, taken away under your control
Baby when you pass me by
Ooh all I do is break down and cry
Baby just one look at you, my heart cries for you
‘cos I love you, love you (love you, love you)

Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild
Everytime I see you, baby I go wild, so wild

Yeah

I go wild, I go wild, I go wild (so wild)
Ooh baby I go wild, I go wild, ooh, I go wild
Every time I see you baby
Every time I see you
Every time I see you baby (go wild)
I go wild (go wild)
Ooh I go wild (go wild)
Yeah
