This Paranoia

Song written by Kim Wilde, Ricky Wilde, Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikström. Ninth track on the album Come Out and Play.

Live performances

‘This paranoia’ was performed live during the Come Out and Play Tour in 2011.

Kim about ‘This Paranoia’

On this track I’m especially proud because I could move my son Harry to play a guitar solo. He has been playing some really good electric guitar for years, and I thought this piece could be a great challenge for him. He actually came on admission to the studio and played, and the rest of us held our breath and thought only, wow! (1)

Lyrics

Oooh, I feel the fear in you
I see it in your face
I know the colour, shape, the size
I even know the taste
You wear it like a trophy
But I see it wear you down
I hold my breath and count to ten
Each time you come around

Now here we go again
And both of us pretend
You know it has no end

This paranoia
Why’d you want to bring me down again
Ooh, this paranoia
What’s it doing for ya?
Why don’t you throw it out!

Ooh, you make a calculation
And you always know the score
You say that two and two is ten
Even when we know it’s four
And if a judge and jury turned to you
And said “guilty”
You’d only look them in the eye
And say “it wasn’t me”

Now here we go again
And both of us pretend
You know it has no end

This paranoia …

Blaming everybody for your own mistakes
Don’t know how much longer I can fake this
Ooh, cos I can’t take no more

This paranoia …

Throw it out!

Suicide

Song written by Kim Wilde, Andrew Murray, Stephen Jones and Neil Jones. Eighth track on the album Come Out and Play.

Live performances

‘Suicide’ was performed live during the Come Out and Play Tour in 2011.

Kim about ‘Suicide’

This song is about greed. How often we want more than we need? And in so many phases of our lives. Always and everywhere: too much sugar, too much pride, too much oil … the list is endless. I fear, greed will defeat us men ever, and there is little hope that this will change someday. (1)

Lyrics

See them all fly, fly so high, higher and high
Watch them burn, the fire is hot, but nobody learns
Who said, “this is what we want to, this is what we
Need to, this is how you have to live”
Just who says, “take what you want to, much more
Than you need to”
 suicide

Having it all
Having it all
You better get ready to fall
Having it all is suicide

Enchanted lives, before they get out the knives
Should we forget how to feel, and say
We’re keeping it real, with the devil we deal
A voice inside of you cries “danger“
You know that it’s no stranger, better listen while you can,
‘Cos time is running out, the future is in doubt
You know it’s just suicide

Having it all
Having it all
You better get ready to fall
Having it all is suicide

Watch them fly
 Take what you want to
Watch them burn … suicide

Having it all
Having it all
You better get ready to fall
Having it all is suicide

Real Life

Song written by Alex Geringas, Erik Nyholm and Dimitri Ehrlich. Third track on the album Come Out and Play.

The song was originally recorded by Some & Any as ‘Story to Tell’ on their debut album ‘First Shot’.

In September 2010, a single release was announced with a projected release date of 29 October 2010, but this release never happened.

Live performances

‘Real Life’ was performed live during the Come Out and Play Tour in 2011 only.

Kim about ‘Real Life’

Life should be like a wonderful book, full of unusual chapters, characters, challenges, and of course love. Honesty, romance and poetry – these are three of my favorite words. (1)

When I was working with Freddy and Anders, up in Stockholm, they played me this song and I fell in love with it. What a beautiful song. A joy to sing. It had been recorded before and I just said ‘we’ve got to record this, this is a beautiful song’. (2)

Lyrics

I wanna know if it’s real love
Do you feel the same?
I wanna know if you’re calling
Out of hope or pain?
I wanna know if real love
Never fades away
I wanna know how it ends

‘Cos you’ve got a story to tell
With tears on every page
There’s so much left to say and do
But I know
That the story’s gonna change
If I could write it all again
I’d save the final page for you

I wanna start a new chapter
I wanna write some more
I wanna know if your character
Feels anger or remorse
I wanna change the ending
From tragic to romance
I wanna learn how to read you

‘Cos you’ve got a story to tell…

Do you know this isn’t fiction
Do you know this story’s true
Do you realise this is real life
Do you know that I still love you
Do you know that I still do
Do you realise this is real life

I wanna know if real love
Never fades away
I wanna know how it ends

‘Cos you’ve got a story to tell…

Do you know this isn’t fiction…

‘Cos you know I got a story to tell
It’s not for anybody else
I read it all tonight
Each word to you

Lyrics

It’s the…. end of the line.
Don’t want to be late now
Just a… matter of time.
Speeding to the brink of mass extinction.

You emptied the seas.
So you bring the sushi.
Between you and me,
we’re speeding to the brink of mass extinction.

It’s the end of the world.
We’re havin a party.
At the end of the world the music has already started.
Pretty people… Too dumb to know it.
Too blonde to see it. Too drunk to notice.

All the people…. Too dumb to know it.
Too drunk to see it. And it’s too much, too much, too much, too much, too much.

You flattened the land.
I took the ozone.
We did all we can.
Speeding to the brink of mass extinction.

We do it so well.
Your car is so shiny.
On the… highway to hell.
Speeding to the brink of mass extinction.

It’s the end of the world.
We’re havin a party.
At the end of the world the music has already started.
Pretty people… Too dumb to know it.
Too blonde to see it. Too drunk to notice.

All the people… Too dumb to know it.
Too drunk to see it. And it’s too much, too much, too much, too much, too much.

I want to see it as the sun goes down.
I want to see it so lets stick around.
I want to see it as the sun goes down, sun goes down, sun goes down.

I want to see it as the sun goes down.
I want to see it so lets stick around.
I want to see it as the sun goes down, sun goes down, sun goes down.

It’s the end of the world.
We’re havin a party.
At the end of the world the music has already started. Yeah!

It’s the end of the world.
We’re havin a big party.
At the end of the world the music has already started. Yeah!

Pretty people… Too dumb to know it.
Too blonde to see it. Too drunk to notice.

All the people… Too dumb to know it.
Too drunk to see it. And it’s too much, too much, too much, too much, too much

Lyrics

I just can’t believe we’re here
Suddenly become so clear
It feels as if I don’t know you anymore
We’re living our separate lives
To me this one big disguise
And now it’s as if we’re slowly moving backwards

You cheat, you lie, you always deceive me
My love has died, you gotta believe it
So let’s just finish what we’ve started.

You say that I don’t understand your pain
And now I’m gonna drag you down again
You shattered every dream that you once had
I’m telling you it’s over now, it’s time to make a stand
My wish is your command
It’s time to turn my back on you baby

You gambled away your pride, revealing a darker side
Proving that I don’t need you anymore
My trust you chose to abuse
Making me feel so confused
I’ve turned it around and I’m slowly moving forwards

You cheat, you lie, you always deceive me
My love has died, you gotta believe it
So let’s just finish what we’ve started.

You say that I don’t understand your pain …

Let’s just finish what we’ve started
Make a stand, my wish is your command
It’s time to turn my back on you baby

Lyrics

I’ve been hurt and I lived in hope that I’d
Find a reason, though doubted I’d always try.
Through this life I’ve seen nothing in between
oh to live with the pain that I’ve lived in,
I can not feel no more,
you’re the reason I’m leaving these darkest days for good

Loving you more than you know
‘Cos I can’t live my life without you by my side can’t let go…
I will stay here forever I know ‘cos my heart tells me so

Through your eyes I’ve seen, all I hoped you’d be,
Your the angel that I never thought I’d meet
You’ve been there and you, held my hand and you
Understand by the way I’ve been treated
How can I feel this way?
Your the reason I’m leaving these darkest days for good

Loving you more than you know
‘Cos I can’t live my life without you by my side can’t let go…
I will stay here forever I know ‘cos my heart tells me so

Somehow, you’ve taken a promise and made it a reason to live
I want you, I need you, taking a chance on a love that was meant for me
I can’t feel no more
You’re the reason I’m leaving these darkest days for good

Loving you more than you know
‘Cos I can’t live my life without you by my side can’t let go…
I will stay here forever I know, ‘cos my heart tells me so
No I can’t live my life without you by my side can’t let go…
I will stay here forever I know, ‘cos my heart tells me so

Loving you more than you know…

Kim about ‘Lights down low’

A typical Kim Wilde song, a strong hook and very sexy. This was a welcome gift of my new record label Star Watch, which has offered me this song. For that I’ll always love them. Rarely have I gotten such a strong song from a label. Therefore, it is also our first single now. (1)

Lyrics

I know where this could lead
Just how good it could be
I’ll show you all of me
What you get is what you see

With every breath you breathing me stronger
Every connection leading me under
One more confession needing another
I’m meant for you and you’re made for me so

Tie your arms around me
Blame it on the lights down low
Higher than the stars around me
Stay the night and save my soul
Dry the tears that drown me
Say you’ll never let me go
Stay the night we can last forever

I\’ll go call it through
If you’d say you want me to
I’ll slow it down for you
Make a wish I’ll make it true

With every breath you breathing my number
Every caress you’re leading me under
One last confession who needs another
I\’m meant for you and you’re made for me so

Tie your arms around me
Blame it on the lights down low
Higher than the stars around me
Stay the night and save my soul
Dry the tears that drown me
Say you’ll never let me go
Stay the night we can last forever

Ooh ooh – Blame it on the lights down
Ooh ooh – On the lights down low

Tie your arms around me
Blame it on the lights down low
Higher than the stars around me
Stay the night and save my soul
Dry the tears that drown me
Say you’ll never let me go
Stay the night we can last forever

On the lights down low

King of the World

Song written by Kim Wilde, Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikström. Dedicated to the memory of Patrick Jordan, a good friend of Kim’s. First track on the album Come Out and Play.

Live performances

‘King of the world’ was performed live during the Come Out and Play Tour in 2011, the Dutch tours in October 2016 and November 2017 and during the Return of the Aliens Tour.

Kim about ‘King of the World’

I wanted to make a monument for my friend Patrick, who died of heart failure, with this song. He was a great guy and this song was a tribute to his personality. (1)

‘King of the World’ was one of the songs that came really quickly and (…) you know when something really good is happening. I remember I just felt literally, physically, like I had something like some kind of wire or connection between me and something else. Universal energy or something. I remember just feeling like I was automatic writing. I wasn’t even thinking about it. It’s just this automatic writing started happening. (2)

Lyrics

There’s something nasty and it’s sticking on my shoe
It’s trying to take over most everything I do
How did it happen that it stuck inside my throat
I didn’t count on this when I was asked to vote

I watch them slide around the corridors of power
Too busy stealing while they take away what’s ours
You want respect, don’t make me laugh when you deceive us
My favourite Dutchy, why’d you ever have to leave us

Cooler than you
No one’s cooler than you
All the things that you’d do
If you were king of the world
We would all play guitar
We would all be a star
With our beautiful king of the world
Beautiful king of the world

A clap of thunder now they’ve taken you away
And now the world is crying every single day
How could you leave us all to face the stormy weather
I guess you knew that we’d be strong enough together

Why do they leave the bad and take away the good
You were no angel but we all knew where we stood
We’re on the guest list and there’s passes on the door
We’re gonna rock’n’roll before we hit the floor

Cooler than you
No one’s cooler than you
All the things that you’d do
If you were king of the world
We would all play guitar
We would all be a star
With our beautiful king of the world
Beautiful king of the world

Cooler than you …

Beautiful king of the world
Beautiful king of the world

Lyrics

Jessica, Jessica, nothing is better
Than sitting with Jessica close by my side
It’s a love you can’t measure
And when we’re together
A walk in the park makes the day so worthwhile
Darling Jessica, Jessica
You make me smile

And when I come home
The first thing I see,
Your lovely face looking up at me
Beautiful and wise
I wish that I could see life through your eyes

Jessica, Jessica, nothing is better…

Darling Jessica, Jessica, you make me smile

Lyrics

People tell their stories
Of what their life is not
Wasted years and broken dreams
They never gave a shot

I’m not gonna hold on while my life is flashing…
Parachute off this plane because it’s crashing

I want what I want not what I need
Getting what you get no it ain’t so bad
But I want what I want not what I need
I need to live it up I need to live it up now

Looking in the mirror
Tell me who do you see today
So conformed and broken
How did it get this way

Tell me have you said your goodbyes to freedom
Where are your dreams now you really need them

I want what I want not what I need
Getting what you get no it ain’t so bad
But I want what I want not what I need
I need to live it up I need to live it up now

I want what I want not what I need…

This could have been my story
This could have been my way
But no guts, no glory
It’s not a game I want to play

Tell me have you said your goodbyes to freedom
Where are your dreams now you really need them

I want what I want not what I need…

I want what I want not what I need…

Hey! You!

Song written by Kim Wilde, Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikström. Seventh track on the album Come Out and Play.

Lyrics

It’s Friday night, what can I do
The week is done, I need some fun
My friends are boring through and through
I think I’ll come and pester you

I’m gonna wait on the corner of the street for ya
But I won’t be responsible for the things that I do
When I’m with you, hey I said

Hey! You! Come out and play
Make those boys go away
Let me lead you astray
Hey! You! Come out and play

Don’t be so scared, don’t try to hide
I see you watching from inside
Open the door and come to me
There’s something I want you to see

I’m gonna wait on the corner of the street for ya
But I won’t be responsible for the things that I do
When I’m with you, hey I said

Hey! You! Come out and play …

Hey! You! Come out and play …

You want it, you need it
Your hunger let me feed it
I want it, I need it
Come and play, come and play with me

Hey! – Hey! – Hey! – Hey!

Hey! You! Come out and play …

Hey! You! Come out and play

Greatest Journey

Song written by Kim Wilde and Ricky Wilde. Duet with Glenn Gregory from Heaven 17. Fourth track on the album Come Out and Play. Kim has never performed this song live, but the intro of the song was used as the introduction theme for her concerts in spring 2011, during the Come Out and Play Tour.

Kim about ‘Greatest Journey’

I wrote this song together with my brother Ricky. We talked for a long time about things like the universe, spirituality and the meaning of life and came to the conclusion that this long journey can not simply come to an end when one leaves the world. Glenn Gregory of Heaven has 17 assisted us musically. Ricky and I are huge fans, we were ecstatic when he came into the studio to record the song with us. (1)

Lyrics

Chant

As you look in my eyes
And ask me what really matters
Is it hard to believe these words
Though your heart is shattered

An invisible truth
Is staring us back in the mirror
And whatever your pain
There is something out there that is bigger

Baby don’t you cry
Someday you will fly
We’re learning to believe
In the things we can’t see
A ticket for the greatest journey

Chant

There are times in your life
It seems that the answer is nearer
But as soon as you touch
It still doesn’t feel any clearer

So baby hold out your hand
We’ll travel this road together
And someday you’ll understand

So baby don’t you cry
Someday you will fly
Far away from here
Never be afraid again
You need a reason why
Confusion fills your eyes
We’re learning to believe
In the things we can’t see
A ticket for the greatest journey

Chant
