Interview with Kim Wilde on the occasion of the release of the deluxe edition of ‘Here come the aliens’ in France.
Together with Ricky she performs ‘Amoureux des rêves’, ‘Kids in America’ and ‘Cambodia’. During the interview she also sings a few lines of ‘Belle-ile-en-mer Marie-Galante’ over a pre-recorded music track.

Amoureux des Rêves

Song written by Kim Wilde, Ricky Wilde and Steve Lee.
The song was recorded in 2018 and premiered online on 1 October 2018. It was officially released on the deluxe edition of Here Come The Aliens on 19 October 2018.

The song features a spoken word contribution in French by Laurent Voulzy. It is Kim’s first studio recording with him since 1985’s Les Nuits Sans Kim Wilde.

Ricky about ‘Amoureux des Rêves’

That was written years ago, a really old one, and Scarlett heard it, I’d given her a copy of the demo, and as we were coming up to do the album Scarlett said, ‘have you thought about doing Dream Lover’? I’d actually totally forgotten the song. And then she sent me the copy that I’d sent her, I heard it and I thought ‘yes, this could be really good’. She said ‘It could be great for Kim! What are you talking about?’ And of course she was right. (1)

Lyrics

I been spending all my days watching everything you do,
Oh I gotta find a way to get my body next to you,
Yeah there’s something in your eyes, tells me that you feel it too.
I can’t breathe,
Cant sleep,
Try to run can’t move and it’s taking me over…

You’re a dreamlover,
Whatever you got, you gotta gimme some.
Be my dreamlover,
Ready or not, you gotta give me some.

Watch the rhythm of your dance,
Feel you hypnotise my soul,
Dreams are slipping thru my hands,
I’m trying not to lose control.
There’s a fire in my heart, but I know tonight will feel so cold.

I want you to want me,
Need love right now and it’s taking me over…

You’re a dreamlover,
Whatever you got, you gotta gimme some.
Be my dreamlover,
Ready or not, you gotta give me some.
(baby I need it)..
Be my dreamlover,
Ready or not, you gotta give me some, give me some, give me some.

Oh, j’ai tant rêvé d’être ton rêve [I have dreamed for so long of being your dream]
Enfin je suis dans ton coeur [Finally, I am in your heart]
Enfin je viens dans ta vie [Finally, I come in your life]
Réel, Irréel [Real, Unreal]

Be my my lover..
(Baby I need it)
Dreamlover..
(Baby got to have it)
Baby yeah…

You’re a dreamlover,
Whatever you got, you gotta gimme some.
(Baby I need it)..
Be my dreamlover,
Ready or not, you gotta give me some..
(Baby got to have it)..
You’re a dreamlover,
Whatever you got, you gotta gimme some.
(Baby I need it)..
So be my dreamlover,
Ready or not, you gotta give me some, give me some, give me some.

Lyrics

You need to know that we’re through
Think we’re long overdue now baby
Gotta open your eyes and realize that
I won’t be the one who will cry
So I’m telling you bye bye baby
I turn around and walk away from all your lies

Even now you know just how to play your games with my mind…

Why did you have to do me like that
I know that it’s wrong but still I always come back
You haven’t the right to say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find a way to fight temptation
How do you control me like that
I gotta move on there’s no escaping that fact
I’m not gonna let you say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find another way to fight temptation

True, there was a time when we were cool
But you took me for granted baby
And it opened up my eyes to realize that
I was with the wrong kind of guy
Now I’m telling you bye bye baby
Nothing you can say or do for me and you

Even now you know just how to play your games with my mind…

Why did you have to do me like that
I know that it’s wrong but still I always come back
You haven’t the right to say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find a way to fight temptation
How do you control me like that
I gotta move on there’s no escaping that fact
I’m not gonna let you say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find another way to fight temptation

Even now you know just how to play your games with my mind…

Why did you have to do me like that
I know that it’s wrong but still I always come back
You haven’t the right to say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find a way to fight temptation
How do you control me like that
I gotta move on there’s no escaping that fact
I’m not gonna let you say there isn’t any other way
I gotta find another way to fight temptation

Rosetta

Song written by Ricky Wilde & Kim Wilde.
Twelfth track on the album Here Come the Aliens. The track features backing vocals by Frida Sundemo.

Live performances

‘Rosetta’ was performed live during the Here Come the Aliens Tour in 2018 and 2019 and during the Return of the Aliens Tour, with Ricky Wilde singing the parts of Frida.

Kim about ‘Rosetta’

Rosetta was a space craft that went on a ten year mission to catch a comet, to find out more about life on earth and inspired this song. I asked Frida Sundemo, who we’re huge fans of, and she said yes and did the duet with me for this song, which questions about the meaning of life. Why are we here? It doesn’t really come up with any answers, but I think asks some really good questions. (1)

There’s a song on my album called ‘Rosetta’, it’s about the satellite that started in 2004 and was on its way to the comet Tschurjumow-Gerassimenko for ten years. Its mission was to find out more about the origin of mankind. In the song it’s about not having to go so far to find out that information. The answers about mankind are to be found here, on earth. Our character is shown through the way we handle our planet. And when we are really observed by aliens – and I do have that feeling – then they will be shocked. (2)

Lyrics

Bigger than a mountain high,
Core of ice over two miles wide,
Spinning millions of miles away,
Tell us all about the human race.
Tell us from where we’ve come and who we are.
Are we the dust of a distant star?
Does it really matter that we’re here?
Is our irrelevance a thing we fear?

Tell me who you are..

What is your destiny?
Are you still a star still shining?
Or are you burning up and running out of time?
Can love redeem your soul?
Tell me what you believe in.
What is this precious thing called life?
Tell me who you are… who you are…

Walking down this busy street,
Strangers passing next to me.
Knowing this is all a game,
In our bones we’re just the same.
And all the answers we’re searching for,
Are deep inside our icy core,
We need a journey deep inside,
To understand why we’re alive.

Tell me who we are..

What is our destiny?
Are we still a star still shining?
Or are we burning up and running out of time?
Can love redeem our souls?
Tell me what you believe in.
What is this precious thing called life?
Tell me who we are.. who we are..

Tell me who we are.

Stereo shot

Song written by Ricky Wilde & Scarlett Wilde.
Originally recorded as a demo by Scarlett in 2012, it was eventually recorded by Kim.
Fourth track on the album Here Come the Aliens.

Versions

There are two versions of ‘Stereo shot’: the album version and a live version recorded in London, released on the album Aliens Live.

Live performances

‘Stereo shot’ was performed live during the Here Come the Aliens tour in 2018 and 2019.

Kim about ‘Stereo shot’

‘Stereo shot’ was written by my brother Ricky Wilde, and his daughter Scarlett Wilde, who also did the artwork for the album. Scarlett’s had a massive input on this project and I’m so happy that she has. She wrote this song inspired by the power and the magic of production. The song really talks a lot about the way that sounds make you feel. I loved the song when she played it to me. (Track by track video, YouTube, 15 March 2018)

Lyrics

Oh my god it’s system overload.
Exceed yourself you’ll crash ’til you implode.
Transmission of a new vibration sounds.
No limitations drag you underground.

Pleasure, Pleasure, Pleasure,
Building the pressure, ’til you explode..

Stereo Shot like a gun,
Once fired it’s outta control,
The danger is half the fun.
Stereo Shot like a gun,
Inject me straight to your soul,
And into your world, oh oh..

Oh My God it’s system overload.
Intoxicate your taste for radio.
Remission of the waves as they resound.
With pure addiction feed your kicks for sound.

Pleasure, Pleasure, Pleasure,
Building the pressure, ’til you explode..

Pleasure, Pleasure.
Remission of the waves as they resound,
Pleasure, Pleasure, Pleasure.
Feed your kicks for sound..

Different Story

Song written by Kim Wilde, Frederick Thomander and Anders Wikström.
Tenth track on the album Here Come the Aliens.

Kim about ‘Different Story’

‘Different Story’ was written with Swedish writers Epicentre, that’s Frederick and Anders, who I love writing songs with. We came up with this defiant pop song which really says ‘just let me get on with it, please don’t chip in with what you think I should be doing. How many people in your life do you know keep telling you how to live it? It’s really annoying isn’t it? (1)

Lyrics

So you made your mind up, got it figured out,
Think you know better, better than you think that I do,
But I do.. yeah I do.

Live your own life make your decisions,
I promise not to judge you when I don’t understand what you do,
You do.. and you do.

I’ve got a different story to tell, and I’m not falling,
For all the lies that you want to sell, hey..
So just leave me to live,
I don’t need you to give me advice on the way I must live my life.
I’ve got a different story to tell.

I’m no angel I know I’m not a sinner,
And some days I’m a winner,
The rest I’m just the best I can do,
And I do.. yeah I do.

I’ve got a different story to tell, and I’m not falling,
For all the lies that you want to sell, hey hey..
So just leave me to live,
I don’t need you to give me advice on the way I must live my life.
I’ve got a different story to tell.

No more opinions, no more lies,
Just get off my back this is all despise,
I’m telling you, no no no no!
Oh no..

I’ve got a different story to tell.

I’ve got a different story to tell.

Rock the Paradiso

Song written by Ricky, Scarlett & Kim Wilde.
Originally recorded as a demo called ‘Amsterdam’ by Scarlett in 2012, the song was eventually recorded with slightly altered lyrics by Kim.
Eleventh track on the album Here Come the Aliens.

Live performances

‘Rock the Paradiso’ was performed live during the Return of the Aliens Tour in 2019 only.

Kim about ‘Rock the Paradiso’

‘Rock the Paradiso’ celebrates a brilliant venue in the heart of Amsterdam called the Paradiso. It’s one of our favourite gigs that we ever played. Can’t wait to play this song for them personally. Also, the Paradiso features on the album sleeve with Scarlett’s amazing artwork, so you can see it just tucked behind my face.  (Track by track video, YouTube, March 23, 2018)

Solstice

Song written by Ricky, Scarlett & Kim Wilde.
Sixth track on the album Here Come the Aliens.
The song was inspired by the horrific suicide of teenagers Charleigh Disbrey (15) and Mert Karaoglan (18), who jumped in front of a train near Elstree and Borehamwood station in Hertfordshire in June 2014. Charleigh, whose family was of Turkish origin, feared that his relationship with Mert Karaoglan would not be approved of. In their desperation, they decided to take their own lives.

Live performances

‘Solstice’ was performed live during the Here Come the Aliens Tour and during the Return of the Aliens Tour.

Kim about ‘Solstice’

Ricky, Scarlett and myself wrote  ‘Solstice’ after some really tragic stories that we were hearing about a few years back, dealing with teenage suicide. We wrote this really hard-hitting ballad as a response to that. It’s the way it made me feel emotionally. It was very powerful. We used my love of Elton John to inspire the backing vocals which run throughout the song, sung by Ricky. A very personal song, and a little bit sad. (1)

Lyrics

Lighthouse shine for me.
I’ve been drifting so far, guide me back from the sea,
To the place I was before.
I’ve been losing my way, now I can’t see the stars..
Anymore.

They didn’t make it home,
Now her hand drops the phone,
She stands there paralysed.
‘Your washings on the bed’,
The last words that were said,
Now she’s screaming, she’s screaming, she’s screaming.

Why couldn’t you share your pain?
I thought you could tell me everything.
Now it’s too late , too late , it’s too late.
Your lives had just begun, why do they end as one?

So now eternal night descends,
With tears that never end,
And words that make no sense.

Sing to me, sing me a beautiful song,
Sing the words that you never could say when we were here.. together,
Sing to me, how did I get it so wrong?
Did you try but you just couldn’t fight against the fear?
And now we’re out of time, why did you have to fly so far away from here forever?
Forever Together…

Our lives forever changed,
On this the longest day,
A summer gone too soon.
The questions fill my mind,
No answers there to find.
I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding.

Forever together now..

Sing to me, sing me a beautiful song,
The words that you never could say when you were here..
We’re together forever now.

Yours ’til the End

Song written by Ricky Wilde & Neil Jones.
Fifth track on the album Here Come the Aliens.

Live performances

‘Yours ’til the end’ was performed live during the Here Come the Aliens Tour in 2018 and 2019 and during the Return of the Aliens Tour.

Kim about ‘Yours ’til the End’

A sort of a Duran Duran inspired pop tune, with lots of backing vocals I put in which were inspired from the song ‘The Reflex’. You’ll know what I mean when you have a listen to it. (1)

Lyrics

Seems you’re living in a dream,
And I know there’s no end.
And I can never find the time,
Come to terms with a lie.
Grab your life with open hands,
Take it all if you dare.
I wish that I could be like you,
Take control, and you’re there.

But I never knew,
Your love was there for the taking,
So I’m coming thru,
And you know I’ll always be there.
You gave me a sign,
And now I’m addicted forever,
You’ll never be mine..
But my heart is yours til the end.

Show me everything you’ve learned,
hidden truth.. it will burn.
I am yours do what you will,
I am lost in your spell.
You will never understand,
Now my life’s in your hands…

There’s no end, take it all if you dare.
There’s no end, take it all if you dare.

1969

Song written by Ricky & Kim Wilde.
First track on the album Here Come the Aliens.
The intro of the song features parts of the song Numinous.

Versions

Two versions of ‘1969’ were released: the album version and a live version, recorded live in Zurich, on the album Aliens Live.

Live performances

‘1969’ was performed live in 2018 and 2019, during the Here Come the Aliens Tour and during the Return of the Aliens Tour.

Kim about ‘1969’

1969 is a song that has a few influences. First of all, I was nine years old when man landed on the moon and I was there watching it with my mum and dad, as a little girl on the TV and I could not believe my eyes. It had a massive impact on me and I’ve been fascinated by the moon and all things to do with space ever since. It was further compounded by a UFO sighting in 2009. So ‘Here come the aliens’ was also inspired by that. ‘1969’ is a song about the aliens may be coming down and kicking us off the planet, because we’ve made such a mess of things. Lyrics

I’m sitting on the sofa with my eyes wide open watching
black and white T.V.
It’s 1969 and two men are walking on the Sea of Tranquility.
Can it be they really got a man to walk on the moon?
Now my Mum and Dad say go to bed little girl, but my
heads in a whirl…

I know they’re watching me,
I know they’re watching me,
I know they’re hiding out there somewhere in the galaxy.
They’re out there in the stars,
Maybe they come from Mars?
Here come the Aliens! Here come the Aliens!
They’ve all been waiting there living for millenniums.
Maybe they’ll save us from the apocalypse when it comes.
A revelation that will really blow our minds!
Here come the Aliens. Here come the Aliens.
Here come the Aliens!
Ahh yeah.

And now there’s no avoiding, our planet we’re destroying,
A stupid human race.
They’re gonna all come down, take over the world, throw
us out into intergalactic space.
It’s too late!
So say your last goodbyes as you look to the skies.
You know they tried to warn us so many times,
Say goodbye to mankind.

Ahh yeah.

Here come the Aliens! Here come the Aliens!
Here come the Aliens! Here come the Aliens!

Oooh they’re coming after me, they’re coming after me,
I know they’re hiding out there, somewhere in the galaxy,
They’re out there in the stars,
Maybe they come from Mars?
Here come the Aliens! Here come the Aliens!
They’ve all been waiting there living for millenniums.
Maybe they’ll save us from the apocalypse when it comes.
