Kim about ‘World in Perfect Harmony’

It’s just about this dream I have… (1)

It’s a very idealistic song, perhaps naively so in many ways. In fact probably naively so. I can’t help but have a positive feeling about the future. When you’re surrounded by children – I’ve got an 11 year old sister and a 9 year old brother – you have to be positive about the future. You have to have an attitude that says, ‘right, I’m gonna make this work, this is gonna work’. You have to. It’s hard though – look around, there’s not much to encourage you to be positive about the world, our future. That song is very, very positive, you know. There’s a song on the album called Who’s to blame, which is slightly more realistic and a much more melancholy, sad appraisal of the world situation. That’s why I’m glad the two songs are on the same album. I think it would have been wrong to have one attitude on it. It would have been a bit naive, really. (2)

Lyrics

Let’s think of the good things
Instead of all the bad
We mustn’t give into
A world that’s going mad
So hold on, we can survive
We’ve got to keep the spirit
Of destiny alive
Just say that we can if we try

Like the rivers need the mountains
Just like the flowers need the rain
Pleasure need the pain
However far away it seems
I’m dreaming for a world
In perfect armony

And we’ve got to face it
There’s nowhere left to hide
(but we need) a determination
To change the wrong to right
The future’s a baby born
Looking for us for strength
To keep it from harm
You know we’ll succeed if we try

Like the rivers need the mountains
Just like flowers need the rain
Pleasure need the pain
How ever far away it seems
I’m dreaming for a world
In perfect harmony

Don’t let your dreams escape
The future’s ours to shape

Who’s to Blame

Song written by Kim Wilde and Tony Swain. The seventh track of the album Love Moves. Like the song Stone, this is a song about environmental waste.
Kim has explained that it is the realistic counterpart of the more idealistic song World in Perfect Harmony.

Kim about ‘Who’s to blame’

‘Who’s to blame?’ (is) about environmental problems. Just like ‘Stone’: I’m really conscious of the fact that things are being destroyed before children have even had the chance to get to know them. It’s very possible that by the time I have children of my own, elephants have disappeared. That’s the reason for writing that song. (1)

Lyrics

Just like in a dream
I’m trying to scream
But no-one can hear me when I call
I feel paralysed
Unable to cry
While watching the world around me fall

Heard it on the news today
What are we doing to our world
There’s got to be a better way
And we’ve got to choose it

And while we destroy
Our children will grow
Not missing the things they’ll never know
A crime against them
Against you and me
A crime against all humanity

Heard it on the news today
What are we doing to our world
There’s got to be a better way
And we’ve got to choose it

Don’t you know that a day will come
To everyone
When they’ll ask us to explain
Are we going to say that we weren’t to blame
Who else could there be

Just like in a dream
I’m trying to scream
I feel paralysed
Unable to cry
What are we doing

Heard it on the news today
What are we doing to our world
There’s got to be a better way
Or we’re gonna lose it

Who’s to blame?

Lyrics

They say that love is a dangerous thing
And hits your heart like a revolution
And all the pain it can bring
Will only lead to confusion
But now that love has come into my life
We’ll I’ve discovered a different meaning
And there’s no danger at all
It’s just a beautiful feeling

I konw it’s wrong to keep it inside for so long
When we both could see it coming
It was just a matter of time

Time
Falling in love with you was just a matter of time
Falling in love with you

It seems so long ago we were just friends
Different people with different faces
just getting on with our lives
Isn’t it funny how fate is
But I know it’s right the way that we’re feeling tonight
Cos we both could feel it coming
It was just a matter of time

Time
Falling in love with you was just a matter of time
Baby, I knew with you it was just a matter of time

Something so good was worth waiting for
Now it’s easy to say that I love you
When you’re feeling it too
Cos we knew in our hearts
That is was just a matter of time
Falling in love with you

Storm in our Hearts

Lyrics

There was a lot to make up
For the time we’d had
Cos we’d been lonely far too long
Had enough of feeling sad
And no, it didn’t take long
To right all the wrong
And hurt inside
And now I can’t believe what’s happening
Right before my eyes

Just look at the rain falling
Look at the thunder
Look at the storm in your hearts
Look at the waves crashing
Pulling us under
Helplessly lost in the dark

We could have lost so easily
And let it go
We had no reason to believe
That love was just about to grow
And we got given a chance
I’m so proud we didn’t throw it away
Cos broken hearts lie on the pavement
You see them every day

Just look at the rain falling
Look at the thunder
look at the thunder
Look at the storm in your hearts
Look at the waves crashing
Pulling us under
Helplessly lost in the dark
In the dark

Just look at the rain falling
Look at the thunder
Look at the storm in your hearts
Look at the waves crashing
Pulling us under
Helplessly lost in the dark

Look at the rain
Look at the thunder
look at the storm
In our hearts
In our hearts

Lyrics

Do you remember when tears fell like rain
When hearts got broken again and again
The disillusionment after the pain
Seems everything stays the same

But time goes by and you’ve further to fall
You build your life like you’re building a wall
Then it surrounds you, and though you may call
You’re voice is so small

And all your expectations of how life should be
Have needed correction
There is no perfection but

Someday maybe you’ll stop living
In a world of fantasy
Someday open up your mind and see
live in a reality

Life’s in your hands but you’re closing your mind
Cos you’re afraid of the mess you will find
You’re scared that’s love gonna leave you behind
That you’re running out of time

And all your expectations of how life should be
Have needed correction
There is no perfection
But

Someday maybe you’ll stop living
In a world of fantasy
One day open up your mind and see
Live in a reality
Someday maybe you’ll stop looking
For a world of make believe
One day open up your eyes ans see
Make it a reality

Stop crying
Looking at life through bitter tears
And face your fears
To reveal the thruth inside
Just like a child

Someday maybe you’ll stop living
In a world of fantasy
One day open up your mind and see
Live in a reality
Maybe you’ll stop looking
For a world of make believe
Someday open up your eyes and see
Make it a reality

Someday…
Someday…

Love Moves

Released in May 1990, ‘Love moves’ was Kim Wilde’s seventh studio album. Compared to its predecessor Close the album was considered a commercial failure. Kim has stated a few times that during the recordings of this album she was losing sight of things that mattered to her, and that the whole process of being famous and in the picture finally caught up with her.

Music

The songs were all co-written by Kim: six with Ricki Wilde and four with Tony Swain. Themes on the lyrics were, once again, the environment (‘Who’s to Blame’ and ‘World in Perfect Harmony’), the plastic world of celebrities in America (‘In Hollywood’) and of course some love songs.

Tracks

This album contains the tracks It’s Here, Love (Send Him Back to Me), Storm in our Hearts, World in Perfect Harmony, Someday, Time, Who’s to Blame, Can’t Get Enough (of Your Love), In Hollywood, I Can’t Say Goodbye.

Artwork

The sleeve was designed by the bureau 3a, with photography by John Rutter.

Formats

‘Love moves’ was originally released on LP, CD and tape.

Kim about ‘Love moves’

The lp is called ‘Love moves’, why the title?
Because it’s true: love makes you do even bigger things.
Is ‘Love moves’ a way of describing the past few years?
In a certain way it is, from the past year. And with some of the subjects I’ve been busy for a longer time. Those are ideas that have developed. (1)

I think the album itself still stands, it was a very strong album, and it was very disapppointing that it didn’t do well. But it didn’t really come too much as a big surprise, because my career before then had always been very up and down. So it wasn’t a complete shock, but it was very disappointing. (2)

Lyrics

You placed your bet while you were laughing in my face
And you let another woman take my place
No you wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t hear
I tried to change your mind
I never knew love was so conceited, so unkind

I was always one step ahead of you
Deep in my heart I always knew
Now admit it, you’re gonna lose this fight
I’m not waiting any longer
Get him back to me tonight

Love send him back to me
Now that you’ve set him free
You better admit defeat
Love send him back to me

You broke her heart while you gambled with their souls
Now she’s just another sad adventure you’ll forget
But he didn’t love her
Still you tried to satisfy your goal
I never knew love was so deceiving, so cold

I was always one step ahead of you
Deep in my heart I always knew
Now admit it, you’re gonna lose this fight
I’m not waiting any longer
Get him back to me tonight

Lyrics

I’ve been looking all around the world
To see what I could find
Just a lot of broken promises
And people left behind
Oh and the – pain of being lonely
Is what everybody fears
Yeah, it took a lot of time for me to realise

It’s here, looking me in the eye
It’s here, here all the time
It’s here, I’ve always tried to find a way to go
But now I know
It’s here

You can spend your life competing
In a world that talks too loud
You can lose your own direction
Getting lost among the crowd
Confusion – is it any wonder
That the road ahead’s not clear
Well you can try too hard to find it
Now I realise

It’s here, looking me in the eye
It’s here, here all the time
It’s here, I’ve always tried to find a way to go
But now I know
It’s here

Now at last my search has come to an end
And I know if there’s a place for me
I know it’s here

It’s here, looking me in the eye
It’s here, here all the time
It’s here, I’ve always tried to find a way to go
But now I know
It’s here

I’ve been looking all around the world
You know it took some time to realise
Is it any wonder that the road ahead’s not clear…

In Hollywood

Song written by Kim Wilde and Tony Swain. The ninth track of the album Love Moves. It features Jaki Graham on backing vocals.

Kim about ‘In Hollywood’

‘In Hollywood’ was inspired by when I was in Japan and I was constantly watching CNN – CNN, dear me – because I had a lot of time in my hotel room, you know, and there was all this stuff about Tyson and Givens and they were in a sort of battle around their divorce and their personal relationship. A ridiculous scenario, to have Robin Givens’ mother on there and I just thought it can only happen in Hollywood, you know. Terrible place to have a relationship. So really that song is about that. Lyrics

Divorce – law courts
Lawyers in their new sports car
Lots of money spent
The public making judgement

He said – she said
Analyse the news you’ve read
Irresistible – the updates unmissable
Fighting – uniting
The press are busy writing
They analyse the word called love
But what can they be thinking of ?

They say that love means the same
All over the world
But I don’t think so
Let me tell you something
I think you should know

Don’t fall in love (in Hollywood)
It won’t fell like you know it should (in Hollywood)
An you can bet it won’t do ya no good
It’s just not understood
I said

Scheming – screaming
This time you’re gonna leave him
You want to get the message straight
Now people think you’re on the take

‘Listen to me’ – a CNN free therapy
Advice on how to live your life
There’s something here that isn’t right

I remember going in [at RAK studios], I remember seeing the orchestra in there and being in the control area. It was overwhelming. It was so overwhelming. I was so proud. It was one of those moments I have as a postcard in my head. I was seeing the strings happening on this song that had happened on a piano in my flat. So, yeah, it was one of the magic moments. (1)

Lyrics

I will be there when you call
I will be there

It’s so sad
when lovers part
They walk away and break their hearts
Yes I’ve had my share of tears
I walked away but now I’m here
Cos now that I can see
All the things that you’re doing to me

I can’t say goodbye
In the night I will be there
I will always stay around
In the day
I will be there when you call
When you call

I will be there when you call
I will be there
If you ever need me baby

I want you to understand
I need you now, I needed you then
Stupid things got in our way
But now I’m coming home to stay
Cos now that I can see
All the things that you’re doing to me

I can’t say goodbye
In the night I will be there
I will always stay around
In the day
I will be there when you call

Never gonna leave you
Now I’m gonna stay forever
Cos you know I need you
Never gonna leave you
Now I’m gonna stay forever

I can’t say goodbye
And you know I tried to walk away
But the feeling deep inside of my soul
Told me to stay
Cos I can’t say goodbye

I can’t say goodbye
In the night I will be there
I will always stay around
In the day
I will be there if you call
Cos I can’t say goodbye

Lyrics

I’m a prisoner who can never leave
Someone that you use anytime you please
But I never want you to set me free
Cos I’m addicted to this love disease

And the fever rages in my soul
Begging you to want me and take control
But come tommorow you’ll let me go
To find another foolish heart I know

As I face another lonely night
A different lover will hold you tight
It’s not right

I can’t help myself from crying over you
I can’t get enough of your love
Yeah I’m dying cos it’s true
I can’t get enough of your love

I’m going crazy can’t you see
You’re turning every day into misery
Just like murder in the first degree
You’re killing something deep inside of me
Cos you don’t care if I should live or die
And you don’t even attempt to lie
And that’s why
