In this installment of the pop quiz ‘Toppop Yeah’ a question was based around Kim Wilde’s ‘Cambodia’. They showed part of the clip for this song, after which presenter Bart Peeters remarked that the war in Cambodia was ended after Kim threatened to come play there live.

During the season 1989/1990 ‘Toppop gogo’ was presented by four or five radio DJ’s. One of them was former Toppop presenter Bas Westerweel. He conducts the interview with Kim shown in this edition of the show. The interview is not very outstanding: it’s the same questions about the new material, how some of the songs came about. Kim wears a white jacket.
The five-minute piece concludes with the clip for ‘It’s here’, which the presenter asks her to present. She responds with: ‘Here’s my video!’.

Kim is interviewed by presenter Bas Westerweel. During the interview, a piece on the set falls down and Kim looks up in wonder. After the interview, Kim does a lipsynch performance of ‘Hey mister heartache’ solo in the studio.

It’s great to have you in the studio again, because last year you were also on Toppop. What have you done the last year?
Well, after the success of ‘Hangin’ on’ in America I spent a lot of time over there, promotion it, and then straight after that went straight into recording my new album which is out in May, middle of May. So I’ve been writing and recording and singing…

And there’s a new single as well.
New single, yeah…

What’s the title of the album?
The album’s called ‘Close’ and…

Middle of May?
Yeah, middle of May, yeah.

And now you’ve made a single, ‘Mister Heartache’…
‘Hey mister heartache’ (laughs). Hey mister, don’t mess with me.

Jesus Christ… (laughs)

Talking about a mess… ‘Mister Heartache’, what’s it all about, the new song?
‘Hey mister heartache’ is really about someone who you’re with and is just messing you around and you say ‘well I’ve had enough of this, you know, goodbye.

Kim and Junior are interviewed briefly by presenter Bas Westerweel, after which they perform ‘Another step (closer to you)’ in the Toppop studio surrounded by an enthousiastic crowd. Kim is wearing a Beastie Boys t-shirt.

Kim Wilde is interviewed by presenter Leonie Sazias. She conducts the segment ‘Toppop Test’, in which artists must answer a couple of questions posed to them. While this particular segment contains a couple of very interesting video fragments, the questions are pretty lame. Kim is a little surprised when she is asked ‘What was your first hit?’ and ‘What’s the name of your father?’.
At least we get to see clips of Kim performing ‘Kids in America’ (her very first appearance in Toppop on April 24, 1981, and Marty singing ‘Abergavenny’ and the Dutch song ‘Daar bij die molen’ together with Dutch singer Corry Brokken.
After this she lip-synchs ‘You keep me hangin’ on’ in an empty Toppop studio.
