Marty Wilde about ‘Water on Glass’

This song is basically about a rare minority of people who continually hear sound in their head. It is a real disease for which there is no cure… a factual thing rather than a fictitious one. It would appear to be a psychedelic song but in many ways it’s not, because there’s a lot of truth in it. (1)

Kim Wilde about ‘Water on Glass’

My father wrote it about tinnitus, a condition in the ear which I have since developed, which is kinda spooky if you think about it. But very livable with, actually. (2)

My dad wrote it after meeting several people with that condition, I guess. He knew about it. That was the sound he imagined that it was like when you had it. He’s never had it. I have it mildly. (3)

Lyrics

Cascading down
There’s a sound vaporising into vision
It’s a sound in my head
That I feel and it shuts me in a prison

Say it won’t last
Say it will pass
Always the sound in my brain
Can you hear it

Water on glass running down again
Water on glass that sound
Water on glass running round again
Help me, the sound of running water’s
Coming down

Dancing away
Like the lights on a moving coloured river
Sounds in my head seem to run
And again I feel a shiver

Say it won’t last
Pray it will pass
Always that sound in my brain
Can you hear it (Can you hear it)

Water on glass running down again
Water on glass that sound
Water on glass running round again
Help me, the sound of running water’s
Coming down

Water on glass running down again
Water on glass that sound
Water on glass running round again
Help me, the sound of running water’s
Coming down
